Trying to decide between a Glock 19 or a 4" Ruger GP100. Always thought a revolver would be fun but lately I've been feeling a semi auto. The Ruger is a little cheaper and maybe a little easier to reload for not having to chase brass around. The Glock is a little more expensive but cheaper to shoot. I would carry which ever one I get but that's not the main reason I'm getting a new handgun. Its a hard decision as id but both of them if I had the money but I don't. So either the revolver or a Glock with a handful of 33 rounders of course. What's everyone think?

I think you are the only one that really knows what you want or need. I'd bet those that own Glocks will recommend it and those with GPs will recommend it.

The ruger. You'll understand the first time you blast off a .357 mag! And it'll shoot a. 38 special, too.

If you are going to carry daily, I would go with the Glock otherwise get the Ruger.

If you plan on concealed carrying the gun, I think the Glock 19 is the best choice. The GP100 is a great gun, but IMO it's a bit bulky for carry, and combat reloading can be an issue compared to the Glock.

If it was stictly range work and home defence I might chose the Ruger, but if I have to compromise somewhere I'd rather do it on the range than on the street.

A 3" GP100 isn't all that difficult to conceal. Where there's a will....

Ruger! Buy American!

Unless you are concealed carrying it everyday, in which case:

GLOCK! Buy Austrian!

I would go with the Ruger personally, but don't own either, shot similar to both though.

If I really wanted to conceal a .357 magnum, I'd probably go with a 3" SP101 rather than a 3" GP100, but I would still rather have the Glock 19 tucked in my belt than either revolver. YMMV.

I'm not a big Ruger or Glock fan....but you're really talking apples and oranges here...in terms of weight, grip angle, caliber, sights, trigger pull in DA vs SA at least on the revolver...

I like revolvers for a lot of reasons...and I own a variety of S&W K, L and N frames ...in .22, .357 mag and .44 mag....and I like carrying a S&W K frame in a 4" like a model 19 or 66 ...is what I have done once in a while...or a 1911... / I'd rather carry a revolver than a Glock ...but then, I'd rather carry anything ( well maybe not a Ruger ) over a Glock ..../ but I'd certainly feel comfortable with a K frame S&W 4" in .357 mag as a carry gun...so I'll say the Ruger over the Glock....in my opinon.

Wow! someone has finally come up with an either or option that leaves me recommending carry of a Glock! Keep your finger off the trigger and Chive On!!

If you do chose the GP-100 I suggest a good belt and holster (which is good advice either way).

Have you shot either?

It would probably come down to preference in the end. Both are excellent and super reliable pistols. I've shot a friend's Ruger 357mag (not sure what model) and it was a blast to shoot. I don't think I will carry it though because of its weight and limited capacity.

I own and CC a Glock19. To me its probably the perfect combo for CC/SD/HD and range pistol. If you look around you can get them in the $350 price range used online and in gun shows. So that would negate the price issue.

Let's see....

A handgun that carries six rounds of .357 magnum, that weighs 40 oz.

vs

A handgun that carries 15 rounds of 9mm+P, that weighs 30 oz. fully loaded.

Go for the Glock.

Lol, the single action trigger on that ruger is a hundred times better than a mushy glock trigger. The long range trajectory and superior energy of a. 357 magnum -- compared to a 9mm, well that might matter, too. And the ruger will never jam.

Every gunner should own a .357 magnum.

Both are fine choices. I had the same decision several months ago. I go the glock because I am eligable for the Blue Label program and got it at a substancially discounted price. If I did not get the discount, I probably would have gone with the GP100. My next hand gun will likely be a GP100. Either way, you'll get a great, reliable handgun.

I'm not a fan of Glock fanaticism. I respect the gun but don't believe it is the be all, end all pistol. However, given the current politcal climate, if you have narrowed it down to one semi-auto and one revolver, buy the semi-auto and LOTS of magazines now while they are available. You can buy the revolver later.

Lets see.....

A ploy-plastic gun that looks and holds like a brick or a well designed steel and built like a tank pistol..hmmmmmm

Ruger GP100 by far.

It really comes down to very personal preference. I find the Glock 17/19 to feel great in my hand, I find them to be very reliable and I can shoot them more than accuratly enough for self defence. I'm not just spouting cool-aid, though. I recognize that not everyone finds the Glock as comfortable in their hands as I do, and there are certainly lots of other options for semi-autos from S&W, Ruger, Sig, Kahr, HK, Beretta, etc. that would make just as good a choice, if they fit your hands or preferences better.

That said, I also agree with what someone else said, everyone should have a good .357 revolver. If I didn't already have a 4 inch 686 I would definitely be interested in aquiring a GP100, too. It would not be my first choice for concealed carry, but I would not feel naked if it was what I had on my belt when the baloon when up.

Not a Glock fanboy, just one of the most popular semi auto handguns around it seems. Ive handled a few and They felt good. Also got to shoot a S&W .357 mag at the range one time, and it was a ton of fun. Would be mostly a range gun, and I would carry it when I had a chance. I would sure buy both, but I'm not rich so that's not going to happen. Rugers are a little more expensive than I last remembered, so i'm kind of leaning towards the Glock, or something else around that price range. Kind of thinking what several other people said, semi auto and lots of ammo/ mags. Any other recommendations for around the $600 range? Got a new job and have been saving some money up so ill be buying after Christmas sometime.

Both are good guns.
The Glock is easier to carry, but the GP100 can be easily carried with a little planning.
The GP100 is more versatile in that you can shoot anything from light target .38 Specials to full house .357 Magnums.
If I were going to only have one, it would be the GP100.

If your looking at other semi-auto options then I highly suggest the CZ 75B.Pure heaven!
