I got spoiled when I could have bought any one of these gun for $50 from a retiring member. Gun shops were offering 25 dollars just to take them. After all a 9mm was the way to go:rolleyes: . I am really sorry now I didn't. I am happy that I convinced many a man not to sell them, that a good .38 was the best gun have for the house, after all it served them well for 20 years (through some turbulent times I might add). When it all comes down to it, it's not the gun, it's the man behind it. Bill

Smith and Wesson model 10 - its the vision of "old cop gun".

I took mine into work and my asst chief went on and on about his first job and the model 10 they carried that looked JUST like mine. He said it was such a small department they shared the revolver, they would just hand if off between the shifts.

Got mine from Century Arms for $175, its worn but is in great mechanical shape and shoots like a dream. Someone over on the Smith boards gave me the worn Tyler T grip as well as a nicely worn holster. Its a great vintage carry package.

If you decide to limit yourself to a Colt thats fine, but learn to check out Colt revolvers thoroughly, they seem to have more timing/alignment issues than the Smiths, at least the older ones do. I prefer Smiths, and have been complaining that I can't seem to find any decent deals on Model 10's anymore, when out of the woodwork this week two Colt Police Positives Specials came my way, both nice guns, but both will sometimes not lock up when the hammer is cocked slowly. I bought the guns anyway as I liked them and the price was right. K frame Smith's to me seem to be more robust.

There's the Official Police, and there's the other guns.
Man, I hate it when I'm a brand-fan, but I am sometimes.
If I had to shoot something with a .38, and it was a bigger .38 than a Detective Special, the OP would get the call.
Whatever the reason, my bullets hit the things I want them to more often with the OP than any other wheelgun, and that covers some fairly fancy shootin' arns.
