I'm in the market for a new or used 1911. I would really like to keep all my guns 9mm. I want something in the 4" range also.

I don't want to spend more than $1000

Any suggestions. Thanks

Id get the Colt Commander in a newer or older version.

They have been making them for years and the price will be around 800.

I'm gonna have to go check one of those STI Ranger II's out. I've never seen an STI in any of the gun stores in my area (Lincoln, NE)? Are they a order only?

There are dealers around for STI but unless you happen to live by one, which is unlikely, you will probably have to go the online route.

The STI Ranger II is a proven 9mm 1911 design as the 9mm 1911 has had some teething issues in the past that have since been rectified. The Dan Wesson Pointman 9 is also a good option.

Is there any major differences between the guardian and the ranger II besides the slight size differences??

I really want a gun that conceals well. I'm carrying a g19 right know but would love to dive into the 1911 world.

Thanks agian for all the help

the Ranger II has a 4.15" barrel and a full-size government grip frame
the Guardian has a 3.9" barrel and the smaller Officer sized grip frame. it also has a stainless slide.

i guess i'm lucky, i have 2 STI dealers 30 minutes away and a third dealer about 2hours away (but i visit that area frequently)

I vote for a little more money and get a Dan Wesson Guardian. STIs are great pistols but the billboard on the slide kills the deal. Kimber has the Aegis II in 3 sizes, if you like Kimbers, Springfield only make a fullsize 9mm afaik. Para Ordnance makes the LTC 9mm for $959 retail, 4.25" with alloy frame. If you really want the STI check out http://shootersconnectionstore.com in Georgetown KY.

the DW Guardian is next up on my list, but i think he was asking about the STI Guardian.

+1 for Shooters Connection, i've bought a bunch of stuff from them.
