Which one - Savage or CZ

I have a Savage MKII Mako, and a 455 CZ. I like them both. Shooting off a bench, the MKII will out shoot my CZ with ammo each rifle likes. The MKII is a heavy barrel with the accutrigger, and the 455 is a sleek tapered barrel with a consistent 2.5lb trigger. The CZ would make a great hunting rifle and is quality through and through. I couldn't imagine carrying the MKII into the woods for a squirrel hunt. Depends what you want to use your rifle for as to which would be best for you. For me, one of each is the perfect solution.

I will have to say I like both, as far as Fit & Finish goes CZ, for the money Savage.............

Savage and CZ cover different slices of the market, with a certain overlap. There is something in each brand that the other one doesn't have. If you are trying to go either-or, I have a feeling you will end up with both.

I would lean toward the CZ. I have the CZ 455 and a friend has the Savage.

Fit and finish is better on the CZ and I find it to be less picky about ammo but I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Very happy with the accuracy of my CZ 453 Varmint with standard/set trigger and Mueller APV 4.5-14x40mm AO riflescope.

I have a savage pre accu-trigger stainless 93 bull barrel that I enjoy. But the CZ seems like it out classes it a bit as far as fit and finish go.

I have owned both have since sold the savage. I now have 2 CZ 452 American's one in .22lr. the other in .17hmr, both are very accurate rifles. My CZ in .22lr is the most accurate .22 rifle I've ever shot.

Long story short " Go with the CZ "

Bobnfl;

I owned a Savage .22, notice the past tense. I now own several CZ's. After I worked over the Savage it was barely accurate enough for me. The CZ's, well you find an awful lot of people, me included, who can't stand to own just one.

My primary varmint gun, the American, can one-hole five at 50 yards & hold MOA at 100. It's also taken a varmint out to 170 witnessed & lazed yards. One shot, cold barrel. It's an exceptional firearm but then the bolt's on the correct, not right, side of the action.

The Savage will be ok but you will love the CZ. Spend the money and you won't be sorry. Put the biggest scope on it you can afford and you'll be able to shoot bees off your target at 25 yds.

My CZ's came with good triggers out of the box. I wanted something a bit lighter and ordered a kit (about$20) so far the kit has done two rifles and I may be able to get a third out of it. In addition to the CZ425 Ultra Lux below there are a bunch of other models to choose from.

The Ultra Lux comes with fantastic tangent sights, I've chosen to go with Brno Target Sights. The stock shape and extra barrel length on the UL makes it a natural for iron sights. If you are planning a scope look at the American and Varmint models, they have a straighter stock shape that's perfect for scopes. There does not seem to be significant accuracy differences between models.

I have a Savage 93 GL -- .22 mag, left-hand bolt, sporter barrel. Pretty plain jane, but with a 4x scope with parallax adjustment and bipod, I'm hitting a 4"-inch diameter metal spinner target at 100 yds. 9 out of 10 shots. That's minute-of-rabbit and good enough for my purposes. If you're primarily shooting paper and obsessed with measuring groups, the more expensive CZ might be better option.

She got one for her birthday a CZ 452 trainer, because Ultra Lux were hard to get. We are very hapy anyway, her brother uses a CZ 513 farmer. Dad needs one, great shooters, solids, reliable and oustanding accuracy for the money.

I have a CZ 453 Varminter with the single set trigger. Leupold VX-3 4x14x40. Last outing with Wolf Match, the last two groups were appx .2 @ 50 yards. At that point I was kinda "zoned in" and ready to make 'em count. The set trigger is AWESOME. Also have one on my .204 Ruger CZ

MY S-I-L has a Savage and it's quite accurate. Not sure it's as good as the CZ.

Having shot both preferred the cz 452 much more over the savage. If looks could t it looked great too.

To the OP, these are two different animals. If you want a tough good shooting utility rifle for less than $300, go Savage. If you don't mind spending extra money on an equally accurate rifle in a prettier package, go with CZ. CZ is making some of the best quality, best finished and best looking rifles on the market today.

That said, Savage may not be as pretty but they will shoot very well.

CZ452 varmint thumbhole

I purchased a CZ452 Varmint with thumbhole stock. It had been sitting on the shelf and ignored, so I got it for half price. I was very pleased. I mounted a Vortex Diamondback 3 to 9 50mm for extra light collection. I wish I had got the better scope with 6 to 24, mildot reticle and adjustable objective. I like to bench shoot at 200 yards. I would shoot out further, if the range was available, just because it amuses me.

The 22lr is sensitive to all conditions out at 100 to 200 yards. I regularly get sub 1" groups at 100 yards and 3" groups at 200 yards (on a calm day). The wind has the most effect followed by heat (100+ in Texas). I just go in the morning to avoid heat stroke (mad dogs and Englishmen).

The aguilla 60gr is a mess for accuracy and key-holes with anything less the 1 to 7 twist. I consider it junk ammo for my purposes. I like Eley in all shapes and velocities. I got a 1 hole (touching) 5 shot group the other day with Eley SSHP at 100 yards.

Try the mil-dot system for ranging. The little slide rule from mil-dot.com is cool. Learning to shoot under all conditions with 22LR at 200 is like shooting 308 at a 1000yards. Well, at least to me it is like that, but I am just a casual hobbyist. At my age, I never want to go out into the battlefield.

As for all the chatter about lethality, bullet placement is key. If you know your anatomy and can place the bullet, then it is fatal. A head shot in or near the brain will rattle around and drop 500LB pig at 100 yards. You don't always need laser precision or massive trauma to inflict serious injury.

Don't mind the ranting of an old veteran.
