I was wondering how much of a difference difference in quality there is between the replica Black Powder gun companies? I know different models may vary in quality but in general, which would you buy and why? Right now I'm in the market for my first percussion revolver, probably a 1851 Navy replica but will be buying others and long guns too.

Been buying Uberti replicas since the 70's, the two Pietta's I had got fixed and sold. Still have the Uberti's.

I voted for Pedersoli (as did most for obvious reasons) but your poll is skewed, just like political polls.

Pedersoli makes only one C&B revolver (maybe), so your options are severely limited in that respect.

I think Uberti makes fine revolvers (with short arbors) for a large price and Pietta makes very good revolvers (with adequate arbors) for a lesser price.

I have 2 new Piettas (1851 Navy steel and a G&G) and one "other" (ASM 1848 Colt Pocket from 1963). There are other companies/factories from the past that have produced such pistols, good and bad.

Study and learn from previous posts on other threads/forums. There is a ton of info out there.

Davide Pedersoli makes the best production black powder weapons in the world IMHO.

But, they only offer a high-end competition oriented Remington New Model Army as their only C&B revolver. They mainly make rifles, muskets, single shot pistols, and shotguns.

I have Pietta BPs and centerfires, and the centerfires are excellent. The BPs are worth what i paid for them. I have not owned any pedersolis, did have a uberti once, and it was ok also, about the same as the Piettas.

+1.

For an 1851 Navy, I'd pick a Uberti London model,

You will love the Uberti '51 (has the correct grip shape). My London is my favorite but the standard, with brass trigger guard and back strap, are a little less blued steal to fuss over.
Don't even think about a brass framed .44!!

Pedersoli has the highest quality. Uberti and Pietta are about the same production quality, but Uberti appears to make the most accurate replicas in that they have the correct grip shape or make an actual 1862 replica while Pietta has made something not even remotely close to an 1862 Navy and call it one anyway.

Doesn't mean poor quality by Pietta, just misleading.

I voted for Pedersoli...

Twenty years ago certainly Uberti but Uberti (Beretta now) is intrinsically the same as Pietta: Uberti is not better than Pietta now except for details.
For accuracy and reliability it is the domain of the old time when Uberti was Uberti...

Now I only buy Pedersoli and Pietta, never Ubeti anymore...

Ten years ago when I bought my first pair of Pietta 1860's, they were pretty rough. Pietta improved their manufacturing a few years ago and today they're Uberti's equal.

There is much complaint about the Pietta Navy grip profile but folks forget that there are two shapes. The London model is closer to the original. While the other models have something of a duck's butt. Despite complaints, I find the duck's butt to be quite comfortable.

Which is the same as this laser engraved .44:

I really think I "need" to buy a 1851 clone. Dixie Gun Works has some good prices and a good assortment of revolvers available.

Very nice revolvers CraigC.

Check Cabela's. When they have a sale, it's usually a very good price, but they're mostly brass frames. They do have a steel framed .36 1851 they call the "Navy Yank" model. I think that one sells for $180 during Black Friday.
