If primary purpose is to burn cheap ammo, door #4 seems appropriate. Get the Bulgarian model and have yourself some fun.

Is the barrel 16.25" plus the muzzle brake, or is it permanently attached?

Pick up a bunch of cheap mags while you are at it, and report back with pics.
 
Classic Arms has Saigas in 5.45x39 for $340, may be cheaper elsewhere, I don't know. Hearing that Saigas are the best buy in AKs, that's what I'd do.
 
Go for the most quality you can afford. SGL would be highly recommend.
 
rust collector + nathan = my opinion. It depends on your budget. If $800-ish is too much, go for the Bulgarian. If you can afford to purchase and shoot the SGL, I'd do it.
 
I have the SGL-31 and love it. I do plan on picking up a Bulgarian "red" from Lancaster as well.

How do the bulgarian AK 74's compare to the arsenal SGLs in terms of quality?
