I'm running 200 grain SWC's with 4.0 grains of VV N310 in my light .45 acp loads and I'm running out of Federal Gold Medal LPP's.
I have Winchester WLP's and CCI 300s. Which of the two do you think is milder (better for light loads)?
The Win's say they're for standard and magnum loads, the CCI's are standard, but CCI has a reputation for hot primers.
Which would you choose for light .45 acp target loads?

Winchester has just the one large pistol primer for standard and magnum loads. CCI has two, the 300 standard large pistol and the 350 magnum large pistol. Between the WLP and the CCI300 I would say the 300 is probably the milder of the two, but if it is I doubt it is by much. I've always had excellent results with the CCI300 in 45 Automatic and it is my first choice in that cartridge. I've only used the WLP in 45 Colt with Ruger-only loads and AA#9.

Remington also makes only one large pistol primer, the 2 1/2. In my chronograph testing the 2 1/2 gives identical performance to the CCI300. I would bet the WLP would give similar performance.

The CCI350 is hotter than all of them though. An article in a back issue of Handloader had a comparison of large pistol primers done by Western Powders and the CCI350 was the hottest large pistol primer.

I've never noticed any difference between them. Try some loads with a few of each and see if you can discern a difference. Testing beats speculation every time.

It's hard to determine when one load is better than another without a Ransom rest, a chrono or the range time to spend testing loads.
I was very satisfied with the 25 yard off hand accuracy of the Gold Medal load, if I don't notice any decline there, I'll just stick with the 300s.

I agree, I doubt the primer will make much of a difference in generating a light load. Actually, since the powder charge is light and pressures low you will probably want a "hotter" primer to insure a proper and complete ignition.

I have used both. As I recall the Winchesters gave a hair higher vels. Both made ammo that shot better than I am capable of shooting.

(of course thats not saying very much :) )

Couldn't really tell a difference between the two. I normally used CCI but when they were unavailable I used Win and Tula LP. The Tulas seemed fine as well.

If one needs a Ransom Rest and a chrono to discern whether loads with one primer or another are "milder," ceteris paribus, I maintain there is no material difference in this context.
