Hi,

If I were to buy a basic SPS model, would it be good to go out of the box to hunt or do I need to swap out the stock etc. and do some work to make it function flawlessly?

Or would it be better to just splurge for a BDL/CDL model? Or what would be a better synthetic model that they offer with a better trigger?

Or should I just look out for a vintage 700?

It will function just fine out of the box, it will function as it is supposed to and will be plenty accurate for hunting as well.

The upgrades are really only necessary if you want to squeeze every bit of accuracy out of the gun. Out of the box it should hold under 1.5" at 100 yards fairly easily.

there isnt much differnce between 700s other then cosmetics. Ive have 9 of them and the most accurate one i have is a matte blued sps 06. It is the most accurate bolt rifle i own period. Mostly like any other brand its more luck of the draw then which model you choose.

I recently installed a Timney trigger in a newer model Remmy 700 Police model. Timney trigger sure is better than that p.o.s. that shipped with the rifle. Now, I like the old Remmy 700 triggers just fine.
