Which revolver has the legendary status?

As a former detective I carried a Smith & Wesson Model 36 Chiefs Special. Still have a Model 36. I think it's a classic in the same category as Colt's Detective Special. Many of you have also mentioned the Model 10. My first gun as a rookie deputy sheriff in California was a pencil barrel Model 10 with a 6" barrel and fixed sights. Not knowing any better, I entered matches with it and did well despite being a punk kid with an allegedly outmoded and over-the-hill revolver. In retrospect I realize it was one of the most accurate guns I've had in a long lifetime of owning them. I keep looking for another with the 6" barrel but they're hard to find. Recently I settled for a Combat Masterpiece. Of course the wonderful sights on this model make it a fine shooter and perhaps it might deserve consideration also.

OK, I agree with the 1911, and Colt SAA, but WHY has no one mentioned the .45 acp S&W 1917?
Because I just got here. I love my S&W 1917, DA action smooth as silk, SA trigger breaks like glass. I like it so much I use it for my winter CC[little big to hide under summer t-shirts] Dependable as a anvil, of course.

Go look at the prices on original S&W Registered Magnums if you can find one for sale if you want legendary:evil:

Reblued starting price $5500.00:what:

on the DA side, why not any ruger redhawk/super redhawk fans? built like a tank, not the best triggers but shoot what ever you want out of them, even to the point of stupidy

48 bids, 10,000+ Dollars and seven days left. These things are pricey. Check out his other auctions and closed ones for other stuff to drool over. I've been following his stuff for over a year now and the collection that has been auctioned off is insane.

Fitzgerald Special type revolvers (I know, not a particular model) enjoy a nice cult-legend status.

I'd say it's the S&W k-frame in 38/357 with a 4" barrel. Must have been several million produced and used as the duty sidearm of practically every US law enforcement agency for half a century.

IMHO, These are the legendary guns.

Pistol - 1911

Revolvers -
SA - Single Action Army.
DA - S&W Registered Magnum.

Shotgun - Gotta be a 12ga trench gun

Rifle - Either a Henry or a Winchester lever gun
