Which scope for which rifle?

I have two rifle I plan to use for two very different purposes.

One is a .308 Savage 110FP tactical with a laminated wood stock (I believe the stock is off a Model 12). I plan to use this rifle as a bechrest shooter. The other rifle is a .308 CZ 550 with a adjustible dual function trigger. This rifle I plan to use more as a hunting rifle.

The two scopes I have are a Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40 and an IOR Valdada 2.5-10x42. My question is, which scope would be best suited for which rifle?

The most obvious idea that comes to mind is that a bechrest gun would require more magnification so the Leupold would be best for the Savage. However, a Leupold just 'feels' 9at least to me) more appropriate for a hunting rifle. What do you guys think?

One way would be to go the range and check which one performs better on which gun...

My suggestion would be to use the IOR for your benchrest gun, as it has far better glass than the Leupold. Then, sell the 4-12x40 Leupold and buy either a 2-7x35 or 3-9x40 Burris Fullfield II for the hunting rifle. The Burris costs about $50 less than your Leupold Rifleman, but has much better glass, comparable to the Leupold VX II. If you can't live without a Leupold, then sell the 4-12x40 Rifleman and upgrade your glass to at least a VX I in 2-7x33 or 3-9x40. The VX I glass is better than the Rifleman, and the 2-7 or 3-9 magnification range is better for hunting and cheaper to boot.

Zen,

I would pick which scope you want for the hunting rifle, then sell the other one and get yourself a scope with higher magnification which would be better suited to LR shooting from a bench. I use scopes with a 6.5-20X and 6-24X power range for my LR shooting.
