checked out an old copy of Shotshell Reloading Handbook, 4th ed. from the local
library; got some good load info & a good primer on the different components & their relationship. (I've been loading rifle & pistola for years)

Mainly got into shotgun reloading for buckshot, and soon slugs. Bird & trap loads are still cheap enough, and I don't shoot that too much anyway.

How is the Lee Manual? which others has anyone used? thanks

Lyman's latest 5th Edition Shotshell manual is a very good manual but it is a little light on load data for buckshot and slugs. BPI-Ballistic Products Inc. is a good source for data for slugs and buckshot. They sell small handbooks for both buckshot and slugs. The only thing is of course is that most of their data use their components. So if you buy their manual be prepared to order their wads, gas seals, cards, wrappers etc. Also a lot of their data is using hulls that they sell. Not a bad idea though to use their products to load buckshot and slugs.

I got the free cats. from the powder companies; I really need more buckshot & slug data, not so much why wads & shot work & how.

I hear you on BPI; I need to use the stuff I got, and will work on various stuff.

One of the loads I'm gonna pattern is #4 buck with BPI buffer.

Anyone shot Gardners Cache slugs? they must be good cause they're always sold out.
