My experience with SIGs is limited to the P220 in .45 and SIGPRO 2022 (poly) in 9mm.

Both have decent SA triggers (DA's are very heavy), but I have seen better triggers on the FNH HP, even on the lowly Taurus 92AFS. Of course, SIGs are built like an old Mercedes (1991 350SD!), keeps on chugging without malfunctions.

So, question is, which SIGs have the best trigger (regardless of caliber)?

I don't believe there is one that can be singled out. I have several SIGs and IMO they all have great triggers but the only ones I bought new was my 1996 vintage P220 and my German SP2022. My others were either CPOs, used, or Zurich Police trade ins such as my P228. So in my case most of mine may have had some mileage on them before I ever got to shoot them. There will be some variations between brand new ones out of the box within the same model. I do not have any SIGs with the SRT so I can not comment on those that have that trigger. I give a slight edge to my 1996 Vintage German proofed P226 as having the best trigger of my P series Sigs but I bought it used though it appears to have very few rounds shot through it when new.

Now if you want to talk about the SIG X-Five line of pistols that takes the trigger to a WHOLE different level but I am assuming you are not.

SIG also offers a factory action job called the Action Enhancement Package for a very reasonable price ($169 currently) and sometimes has a special deal on that such as reduced cost for 2 way shipping and combined services though I have never felt compelled to do that on any of mine. See the link below if interested. I have never heard anyone say that it was not money well spent what had it done.

Action Enhancement Package – Our factory gunsmiths hone and polish critical surfaces to lighten and smooth both the double-action and single-action trigger pulls taking your SIG SAUER to the next level without voiding the factory warranty. (Excludes SP2009, SP2340, SP2022, 226X5, Mosquito, P238, P250 and 1911 models. Improvements are not as pronounced in our DAK trigger system and not generally recommended for DAK's). $169.95*

My personal observation is that it depends on when the pistol was made and the mileage. I have 3 P226s and 2 P229s of them 3 pistols needed the AEP to improve the trigger and 2 didn't. I used to have a P239 that had an excellent trigger out of the box.

1 P226 and both P229s had a significant amount of 'stacking' in the trigger, sent all three into Sig for the Action Enhancement Package. All three now have butter smooth triggers.

1 P226 was used and traded for, not an all German model, and has a great trigger - even after dropping in the SRT kit. No work required.

1 P226 (the newest one - 2010 manufacture) came out of the box with a great and very smooth trigger. No work required on this one either.

Moral of this long post, it seems that the earlier triggers were very good, guns made up to 2009 needed some work, and they may now have fixed the problem and are putting out good triggers again. Not that the triggers were bad on the guns that I had the AEP done to, but nowhere near as good as my older guns or even the newest.

Interesting info MJ ATL!!

All my P series SIGs were made between 1996 - 2000. Not that I planned it that way but is just worked out that way and I also prefer non rail SIGs just because I like the way they look better.

I recently got a Sig P226 Tacops with the Short Reset Trigger. amazing at single action. Compared to the regular trigger of say, a P220, the SRT is well worth it!

I love my P226, but I agree with the naysayers about that first DA pull. It has some grit, and is a tough pull. I've been thinking about getting the action enhancement package, but I am reluctant. The SA is very good, and I'm not sure I want to drop $200+ (when you include shipping) to improve the DA.

If you want a better da trigger get a lighter mainspring from Wolff springs. Makes a huge difference.

I found that my 228 trigger got much better after a few hundred rounds of live fire and a few more of dry fire, but my father's older 220 ('89 I believe?) which hasn't been shot much at all has a pretty gritty DA trigger. I think it would get much better with some use to break everything in. (And why oh WHY would someone buy a gun like that and not run it for a while?!?! Even to just get it broken in? These things are just too much fun to play with at the range!)

Anyway, it is my general thought that the earlier W.German and German guns have slightly better triggers, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

My X5 AllRound trigger couldn't be better, especially in SA. Smooth to firmness, breaks like glass. Just one of the things I like about it.

GreyCoupe, have you had any problems with the internal extractor on your x-5 allaround? how many rounds do you have through her now?

sorry, don't mean to derail, but i'm extremely concerned about this.

Based on the eight SIGs I own including one P239, two P225s and five P220s, the best (smoothest) factory triggers in order are:

P239 (SRT)
P220 (DA/SA)
P225 (DA/SA)

The newer P220s have markedly better DA/SA triggers than the older all German or hybrid versions, and the difference between new P220 and older P225 triggers is "Knight and Day" ... an inside joke for anyone who watched that movie.

gotta220 thats not bad.Looked at a210 at the conv.in Pitt. best I ever felt, but of course it's single only.

Don't know about yours, but I would dare say that my 2022 has a better "out of the box" trigger than my 226 or 239. Sure, the DA is heavy, but is smoother than my other two SIGs, and the SA breaks like a glass rod, unlike the others that have a tiny bit of creep.

Interesting as what got me the SP2022 (blind buy as non available to test at that time in town) was handling and shooting my brothers P220.

Pretty much fine with the DA on the SP2022 and the SA is better than the HK P30 I have shot. DA may be better as well.

I've owned P220s, P226s in 9, 40 and 357. P229 in 40 and P239 in 40. It's a toss up between the P229 and P239 on the smoothest DA/SA triggers.

SA/DA trigger

My X-Five 40 All Round got Graygun's best treatment which produced a superb result. At the time, I had a P226 and had planned to send that for similar treatment but opted to buy their upgrade kit until the next year. The kit was about $45.00 and easy enough to install on my own. One of the components in the kits is a titanium trigger block to replace the original steel unit. There are also several replacement springs including a lighter mainspring. After a couple of hours of very careful work mixed with a bit of sweat, I was amazed. Both the SA and DA triggers were improved to the point where I was fully satisfied. If I were to buy another P226, the kit would be a must buy for me.
