Just to put them on the board. I, too have the AK-47 version. I didn't know they made one for the SKS. I'm sending my money tonight.

Blackjack Buffers Work

Randy Sloan is the man at Blackjack, he is good to deal with.
He has two styles, the "H" style pictured and one that fits in the receiver cover.
I use both, they make a big difference in the vibration in the receiver when you shoot.:D

can i install both in my yugo sks ??? the sks recoil buffer and the h shape buffer? are they reliable? how much less recoil have u experienced??? thanks

Does the SKS even have much recoil to reduce? I haven't fired one in 10 years, but I don't remember it being any worse than my AKs which have very little recoil.

Destructo -

I was wondering the same thing. My Yugo has such negligible recoil I can't really see any need to reduce it.

Is that the only benefit one gains from installing a buffer?

I think part of the idea behind the buffer is to reduce wear on the receiver cover. I don't recall recoil being that big of a deal w/ the SKS.

The purpose of the buffers is not to reduce recoil.
What they do is keep the rear of the bolt from hitting the rear of the reciever when the main recoil spring gets "tired" after continued use or worse, storing the rifle with the bolt open.

While it does blunt the recoil "spike" you get at the end of the bolt/carrier travel, it doesn't really reduce recoil. You will feel less recoil but that's an illusion. In reality, the recoil is the same, it's just spread out over a longer period of time and the peak pressure is significantly less. It's the difference between a push and a smack. If you touch the face of your wife and gently turn it toward something, she won't complain. If you transfer the same energy by smacking her, she might just shoot you in your sleep. But you've transfered the same energy, right? It was just spread over a longer period of time when you turned her face. You also get a smoother 'feeling' gun with less action noise and less muzzle rise. The gun will feel better when you shoot it and seem to handle better when firing. It will be a smoother, more natural transition between shots.

At one time I produced a matched set of upper and lower buffers, I think Meanoldfart got the last upper I made. From all the test results I saw the lower buffer did about all the buffering. I now offer only the H buffer for the SKS and I don't know if BT's cover buffer would work with my buffer...if it's too thick then the H buffer would serve no purpose and if it's too thin then it would serve no purpose.
