Anyone have a website that points to the laws for an AR15?

I'm talking a full functioning AR15 as it was meant to be and not the CA legal watered down version.

Or even tell me which states it is illegal.

I'm from CA, but I'm about to finish school and find a job.

And no, I'm not determining my job according to the gun laws.... but it may sway my final decision. There isn't a particular state I have in mind... I just never owned an AR15 and thought it would be cool to finally own one.

Generally, avoid the northeastern US. (Mass, NY, NJ, CT, Maryland) etc. The vast majority of other states will be fine.

legal in ny state, just cant have flash hider, bayonett lug,& hi cap mag unless mag is made before 1994.they usually come with 10 round mag.

Colorado is AR affectionate, but we've got more than enough Cali's here too. If you'll leave the Cali poly-tix behind, you're welcome to move in.

But, if you are originally from/have family in Cali, and don't want to go too far, just slide over to Arizona. Arizona and Cali couldn't be more diametrical in regards to gun law.

When you narrow down your choices I would check out the NRA/ILA site, they have a synopsis of the state laws that should be helpful.
I would not be a bit embarrassed about picking the state I chose to live in based on the freedoms it afforded me. Its one thing for somebody who has a great deal invested in a job and home who got slowly boiled by offensive legislation but you are young and starting out so pick a good place and stay in the fight from day one.
For me, I was offered jobs in some bigger metro areas in NM, Az, and Ut but decided to settle down in a small town and raise my kids so they could play in the creek and ponds and roam in the mountains without the crowds, less money but it made a difference IMO.

Not!

I'm in Ohio. Ar's are cool as long as you don't use more than 30 round mags. You can't travel with loaded magazines. You have to load those magazines at the range. Also No sherriff will sighn off on a class3 permit or SBR.

Ohio has fallen. Its part of the USSA now. I haven't been able to fly an American or State flag in Ohio for years.

avoid the northeastern US.

There you guys go painting all of New England Massachusettes red (or is it yellow?) again.

Hi cap ARs (as well as FA ARs with the appropriate Fed. tax stamp) are perfectly legal in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Me and NH are both "shall issue" and "castle doctrine" states

and VT is tied with AK for having the best gun laws in the nation ... i.e. no permit required for concealed carry.

Ohio has none of the "Orwellian" gun laws, but more than its fair share of "annoying" gun laws. Can't CC in restaurants that serve, can't travel with loaded long guns of any type, etc.

Besides, we don't need to worry about it because the OP said he was leaving California to get a JOB... and you KNOW we don't have any of THOSE!

this last hunting season even Minnesota now allows hunting with 223, and believe me in this liberal state that was a shocker...

The deal with the 30 round mags is not true-at least as far as the State of Ohio goes. There are some towns that say you can't use them.

I think the laws are less strict in Ohio then they are in Michigan. I have lived in both states. When I purchased a handgun, I asked if there was a waiting period. The owner of the store said, "Where do you think you are? Michigan?" When I I bought my AR 15 upper I carried it IN THE OPEN right out of the store. I threw it in the front seat and drove home.

The class three laws all depend on the area. In my area, they don't seem to have a problem. If I could afford something that was a class 3, I would not have a problem getting it.

The mag law is stupid. I was even told it applies to Enblocs. It makes me wonder if I am breaking the law when I go to the CMP and purchase a spam can.

You can, however, travel with a loaded mag if you have a CCW.

Good to go in Nevada. No restrictions at all. Flash hiders, 100 round beta mags, you name it. And if you have the money, even full auto.

I would say it is probably legal in 40 states or so just avoid some of New England, Cali, NY, Maryland(can't have more than 20round mags), and a few others I am sure.

+1 for tennessee no mag limits and every thing above a 204 ruger is leagle but to the hart of the matter, no asault's in the northeast, southeast every one owns ar15's and aks, north west may be ok for a ar but be pick on the cal, south wast almost anything gos in some states AS FAR AS I KNOW. i can only speek for the south east where the on restickions are mag capasity on migratory birds, and most any centerfire will go

CT is tricky, if you want to come to New England go to Maine, New Hampshire (probably the best in terms of gun laws) or Vermont, as stated before. Massachusetts and New York state have some pretty draconian gun laws

In CT you can own an AR-15, and there is no capacity limit.

The only restriction with AR's is that it cannot be a Colt manufactured receiver.
I'm dead serious. The rule is that stupid. I can own a 16" M4gery with 30 round mags, etc... so long as the receiver doesn't say 'Colt' on it.
