I am considering one of these three 45acp hosts.

H&K Mk 23
FN FNX45 Tactical
Sig P227 Tactical

All three come with factory threaded barrels and raised sights. All three seem to be quality built heavy duty pistols. I have handled all three and I am simply not sure which to get. The H&K is around $800 or so more than the FN, and I am just wondering if it is that much better of a gun. The H&K is still definitely in the running.

So anyways, which would be best? Are all of these about the same level of quietness?

The HK USP45 Tactical would be a more apples-to-apples comparison. It's about the same price as the FNX but is likely a better gun. I say this based on the fact that I owned the FNP45 Tactical and the HK USP45 T and the latter was nicer. The FNX and FNP are very very similar. The FNX is maybe a better value if it still comes with night sights and three mags.

You can't go wrong with a Mk 23, though!

I have a FNP45 Tactical that I've been very pleased with, it's accurate, rugged and well built, and has never given me a bit of trouble. I carried on duty the last couple of years I was working and it served me well. You get a lot of gun for the money - suppressor height night sights, optic ready slide, unmatched capacity, 3 mags, etc. I have mine set up with a Trijicon RMR02, which I have found to be a worthwhile investment.

That being said, just yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot a suppressed USP45 Tactical. I've shot USPs before but it was the first time I'd shot the Tactical model and the first time I'd shot a suppressed pistol or seen/heard any suppressed weapon in person. I have to say that I was very impressed with the smoothness and accuracy of the gun. It felt very good in the hand and recoil was very manageable, of course a lot of that was due to the weight of the can on the end of the barrel. I have no experience with the MK23 but aside from being larger I can't imagine there's a huge difference in feel or function, especially $700 or $800 worth. Of course, you can't put a price on the cool factor.

One of the biggest selling points for me when I bought my FN was the optics ready slide, but after shooting the USP45T I must confess that if I'd had the opportunity to handle and shoot one before buying the FN I would have had a hard time choosing. This probably doesn't help with your decision, but my best advice would be to weigh them on the features you want the most.

BTW, the suppressor was really cool, neat to try and I'm glad I had the opportunity, but I could take it or leave it. It was not as quiet as I thought it would be based on videos I'd seen and considering the cost involved and how unwieldy it makes the gun I don't see it as an option for me.

I'd go HK USP .45 Tactical. They've been the benchmark for a long time.

I forgot to mention in the original post that from what I have heard the H&Ks come with the European thread sizing (M16×1 RH). This means if I chose the Mark 23 or the USP45T that I would have to have a barrel threaded for the common USA threads.

The FN and Sig to my knowledge have the correct USA thread sizing already (.578×28).

Mk23 second to none. It's a tank and will last you forever even if you don't clean it on regular basis. Will shoot 45 super as well and any other hot load; and for suppressor and AIMING device it's the best setup one can ask for. Plus it's an HK!

I've had great luck with my FNH pistols. My next .45 will probably an FNX-45. I don't really need all the tactical stuff, but I do like their pistols quite a bit.

I use the FNX as a host for my Osprey. Fantastic gun and suppressor! Just a heads up, if this isn't your first suppressor than you probably already know this, your host gun will need cleaning more regularly that it would if you were shooting un-suppressed. If you really hate cleaning, look for the pistol that is the easiest to take down.

Nope in means you need to buy a M16x1RH piston for your suppressor. If your suppressor brand doesn't offer it, I'd rule out the HK, as an HK with an aftermarket barrel is not really an HK so why throw so much money at it :)
