I wish I had more hands-on experience with those optics. I've never used an EOTech, just looked through one in the store. To my eyes the Eotech looked 'grainy' like a very low res monitor. The outer ring seemed way larger and brighter than it should be and seemed to obscure whatever I was looking at.
Yeah, when first turned on and inside a building the starting brightness level is too bright. It's about perfect for outdoors unless the sun is washing things out. The good thing is the EOTech has a big range of brightness adjustment, from nearly invisible to retina searing.
I have noticed that my friends with very good vision are a bit distracted by the pixelation of the EOTech. For people with a bit less than good natural vision it's less of a distraction. Especially when the brightness is turned down to allow good sight through to the target.
Short of having night vision gear, the low light usability of an EOTech is quite impressive.
