Which you would carry and why you would choose it over the others:

1. Glock 23 .40
2. Kahr MK40 .40
3. Ed Brown 1911 Kobra Carry Stainless Steel
4. Sig Sauer P239 .40
5. Colt Python 2.5 inch Stainless Steel 357 Magnum

p239--40

carried for many years . mine is pre-melt look; da/sa with decocker. 100% reliable and very accurate. power vrs weight vrs size-- it seems to be the best at not compromising.
also have 357 SIG conv and 9mm conv. both ported bbls from efk firedragon and both flawless

Either the Glock 23, Kahr or possibly the Ed Brown.

Whichever one you shoot best and dedicate to.

The Glock, Python or the Kahr are very simple: Point gun, pull trigger. Done shooting, take finger off trigger, gun is safe. The Python is too fat and heavy for only 6 shots. The Kahr is a viable choice if lightweight (or lighter, anyway) is desired.

The 1911 requires one to be dedicated to cocked and locked carry. If you're NOT, then it's not the gun for you. It requires you to put the safety back on when done shooting, but ammo is still in the gun. The Sig 239 requires a decock to be safe.

It depends how dedicated you'll be.

G23. I did in the past and I would in the future if my current state of residence would pull it's collective head out of it's rear.

For me, whatever I shoot best and has as close to 100% reliability as I can find. Of the ones you listed, I'd probably go with the Glock.

For whatever reason, I shoot Glocks better than 1911's (even 20's and 21's). They've also proven 100% reliable for me. My 1911's, while reliable, hiccup every once in a while for some unknown reason (maybe once in 250 rounds or so). Glocks are also inexpensive and easy to replace so dings, scratches, and holster wear doesn't bother me the way it would on a $1000+ custom.

I haven't spent enough time shooting double action with a revolver to feel comfortable carrying one for SD. That and the limited capacity and slower/more difficult reload keep me from carrying one.

I would go for the p339. I love mine, flat enough to hide, very accurate, and reliable. The glock might be a bit too fat to hide well depending on what you wear.
