Just got a White Rifles Model 97 as a gift. The gun has a laminate stock and the action is bedded. Caliber is .504 and the barrel is 24". Also got a Nikon 3x9 to mount on the gun. What have I got? What do you think of it? What do I need to know to make this a really good shooter?

Figure out the twist. Put a wet patch on a ramrod and push it down. Measure how many rotations of the ramrod before it bottoms. If it's 1:66", then it's a round ball gun. If it's faster, it's likely to take conicals.

Fine rifles with one small catch, ... the balls or conicals you will need must me obtained from White, due to their odd size. Good luck. Exelent choice on the scope. Nikon's make great scopes.
