What is your favorite whitling knife?

I have many knives, big, small, old, new, fixed and folder. The one I like the most in an old 3 blade Shrade Walden that was grand pa's. Beautiful patina, jigged bone scales, and keeps a scary sharp edge
Second is an old Shrade Imperial (Ireland) single blade with black molded scales made just before the venerable old Schrade went bankrupt.

I had a small buck knock off sold through a Woodcraft shop here that I enjoyed a lot whittling slingshots with. Unfortunately I have no clue where it is these days. Will be following this thread to see what to replace it with.

Hello bikerdoc,
When traveling I take a Flexcut tri jack pro. At home I have a full set of Ramelson palm carvers and some Scandi knives.
Kookla, I make my slingshots out of laminated hardwoods to increase fork strength. For canes and walking sticks I like Diamond willow.

Keeping an eye on the thread as well. Last time I went camping I whittled using my larger size Swiss army know (size they issue to the troops). It wasn't comfortable at all.

Sheepdog1968,
I agree, the do everything Swiss army knife does not carve well. Look for a Victornix Pocket Pal, thinner blades, less than an ounce weight, two different size blades and should be under $20. Less rugged but better for carving.

For a folder I like the Flexcut Whittlin Jack. It comes with the correct edge for carving and the back is thick enough so pushing isn't too uncomfortable. The blades don't lock but the springs are stiff so they won't easily close in use. I modified a SAK Pocket Pal for carving but the blades are thin, suitable for only the lightest use.

For a fixed blade the best I've found is the Sloyd, regular or short, from Pinewood Forge. Designed for carving/whittling, comes razor sharp and the back is rounded for comfort.

If it matters, the Whittlin Jack blade shape lets you do some impromptu chip carving.

Thanks

I like a nice slip joint but gave them up for actual dedicated carving knives. I have found swiss made to be good solid knives for the money, not flashy but good steel and heat treat. I also have a knife from diobsud forge I really like but they don't seem to be around anymore.
