Between black coffee, and shiftn' gears
I was born in the mid Fifties.

I had the Case Peanut knife with chrome vanadium first, Grandma saw to that I had one.
Grandma also gave me Old Timer Peanut, "Case is special, so we will set it back and use the Old Timer more - understand?"
I am three years old - all I knew Case was special, and I had two knives. Grandma never steered me wrong - and the other Mentors & Elders seems to be saying the same thing.

Case Camp knife was my first knife with a main blade of that chrome vanadium steel, bottle opener, can opener, awl...and it was "my very own". Rite of passage.

I would be much older, in fact out of High School best recall before I owned a SAK.

The times and how raised, the first SAK given to me a gift was...well, it was less money ,and if I lost it, it was not the same as losing some of the nicer Case, Camillus, Shrade-Walden, Hen & Rooster, Boker...

SAK classic, having had a mustache for near 31 years, always found the little scissors handy. Thinking back I wished I had lost one of them Classics the times I lost my one of my knives with a pen blade and scissors made of 18 karat yellow gold, or one with ivory scales, or that one with olive wood , or that one with bone or ...

Do you prefer the Camp Knives or SAK with a main blade, can opener, bottle opener, awl...?

I have owned several SAK's over the years but somehow always ended up loosing them, giving the away or just wearing them out. I still have one and whenever I go out it is not too far from my reach. Everybody should own atleast one.

The only SAK I carry is an Al Soldier that my ex Mother In Law (shoulda married her instead of "The Ice Princess") brought back from Switzerland for me.

I have more than 1, and they are some of my regular pocket lint removers, it seems every time I pull one out there is some kind of pocket dust bunny in it.
2 of my favorites are a tinker and a soldier. I also want a Camillus USMC knife, America's SAK

:)
I had one of them Al Pioneers and Al Soldiers too...
One is somewhere in PA, seems I left it under the hood of car I was assisting with, and the other, we had a MRSA patient and it "got lost" in all the works in the OR (Anes machine needed assistance and something else) and was supposed to be heading to being sterilized with instruments (Alco) and ...dunno.

I have one Spartan left and two Classics.

Leatherman multi tool...TN State Trooper, bad scene and he needed it more than I did.

Bad moon or something, seems a little dealie the other day and do not have the locking knife a lady friend gave me to use (Gerber LST ) . I am going backwards on all this stuff.

Lady friend just laughed. 'If you would quit being nice and helpful - stuff like that would not happen".
She has a point.

I'm going to start carrying a sharp rock...maybe that will work best for me...

Had them for years

I used to have a theory that there was only ten SAK's in the entire world. They just keep getting lost by the original owner and ends up in the hands of some lucky SOB. I found my first two knives. Bought or received as gifts another three. One is permanently affixed to my keys. I also carry a Puukko I made on my belt.
I prefer a traditional belt knife, but admit a cap lifter, corkscrew and tin opener sure are handy.
SAK's do lack a little soul. I won't argue that. Sure are handy, well built, well designed and cheap. I will always own one or more.

My dad gave me my first knife when I was a boy scout many moon ago - 2 blades, awl, bottle opener, screw driver. It evolved into a Swiss Army Knife that I carried for years. Now, I carry a Benchmade & a leather man.

ALOX Soldier is tough as nails. The blade and all the tools are a little thicker than standard SAKs, and the anodized aluminum is much tougher than the red cellador handles. Gives a good grip too. I am going to buy more.

As far as SAKs go, unless you have some special need, the two default champs are the military spec ALOX soldier used by the Swiss army and the One Handed Trecker (trailmaster) used by the German Army. My two favorite SAKs as well. I buy them whenever i find them; keep one of pair in your kit, and keep another pair for daily carry. :D

To tell the truth, I carried SAKs for years and rarely used anything but the knive blade and the screwdrivers. My wife gave me a Leatherman 5 or 6 years ago and I use every tool. Haven't lost it yet either.

I love mine

I have the Victronix Adventurer. It lives in my back pack that i carry every day. It onlyy has a Large blade that lock, a can opener, flat head and phliips head screwdrivers, an awl, and a few other things, but i find my self using it all of the time. For the $25 that i paid for it, it is well worth it.

Victorinox Tinker. Sharpen the main blade well and you can scoop the breast meat out of a dove, chukar, pheasant or grouse in a matter of seconds. That, and it's got the most useful set of tools I've found for my needs...

Then again, I've got a pretty good toolbox in the bed of my truck. Just in case. :)

I EDC a Victoinox Spartan.Sometimes, I think I should have went Tinker, but the Spartan works just fine:)

I love Case and SAK knives but have always carried a SAK for the last twenty years while Case are more for collecting for me. Definitely yes on the SAK!

I never leave home without a SAK current EDC is a SAK Farmer. I have always been a fan of the Soldier model but I like addition of a saw on the Farmer. I may leave the house without one my tactical, one handed opening knives, but my SAK, never.

I'm a SAK user. Alox Soldier is my EDC along with another knife. I often carry something like the Farmer or Locksmith in my truck for potential work situations where I might not have any tools with me. Trekker is a good one too. I slip the big Locksmith in my SOG Nylon sheath pocket along with the SOG Seal Pup Elite plain edge knife. Works well together in the woods although I have debated cutting off the big flap cover that buckles down. I'll carry different knives hunting.

For a single EDC knife that you can use, look at the larger SAK models that are two or three layers. The Locksmith and probably the Farmer is too thick for the pocket other than for ocasional carry.

I've got several SAK's, but the only one that gets any use is a 15+ year old "picnic" with the side-lock slider on it. I've lost and found it more times than I care to think about, but it always seems to show up when in need of a corkscrew.

I tend to be partial to quality, single blade lock-backs as all around EDC, but the picnic always ends up in the bag as a utility knife when I'm in the sticks.

I own several, and depending on the task at hand one or more may be used. You really can't go wrong with a SAK!

Okay, my everyday carry kinives/tools are a Leatherman Juice to work, old Standard Leatherman evenings and weekends. Spyderco Endura or Native IWB just above right front pocket (which contains a KelTec 3AT). Moore Maker 3.5 inch Trapper in left front pocket. SAK Classic on a key ring with a Digilight and Gerber nail clippers. I used to carry a SAK Climber, but found the most used tools were the tweezers, the toothpick and the sissors. The bigger SAK duplicated the tools in the Leatherman. So, I vote YES for SAK.

I carry a Victorinox Tinker daily.

I used to have a really big one (the original Champion) I got as a present, but after many years, I lost it someplace. I replaced it with one that had only the necessary implements on it. My wife carries a little tiny one I gave her. Loves it. Neither one of us could live life as well with the things.:)

MY little SAK(has a LED light and writing pen) and my Leatherman Micra go everywhere with me----and allow me to carry a stout dedicated single blade-----usually a Benchmade Griptilian or Spyderco Endura.

I love the things. A variety of models sit in drawers, various rooms and in each vehicle along with the "Swiss Tools" I must have at least 30 of the Victorinox and a smaller number of Wengers. Always have one on every key chain. A love affair and fetish I am not complaining about.;)
