We spent the weekend at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton NM. My wife and I, my brother from Albuquerque (who organized the whole thing) with his wife and two boys, my son Jim and his wife, my daughter Diana and her husband, my daughter Sarah and her husband, and our friends Bud (Smoke Rizen on this board) and his wife.

We spent all day Saturday and half a day Sunday shooting. I didn't think to take pictures but Sandy managed to get a few...

Our first stop, the sight in range:

Spent most of Saturday at the Hunter Pistol Silhouette range. Everybody had a blast shooting everything from .22lr to .480 Ruger at 300 silhouette targets:

Spent Sunday morning shooting at the long range rifle silhouette range. Bud (Smoke Rizen) and my brother and his boys set up all 300 targets and we spent about three hours knocking them down with Garands, .270's a Mosin and an 03A3. This shot is me spotting for my son who is shooting my Garand.

I used 18 clips of ammo that morning. My son and SIL ran out of .270 ammo. Bud shot until he was out of ammo, and once, hit 9 out of 10 turkeys.

Lastly, my grandsons were really good all weekend, waiting until they are big enough to join in:

Larry-
Thanks For Sharing.
Never been out that way, beautiful country.

4 grandsons setting an example of eyes and ears...look at him...
that one on the far right is the instigator I bet..."folks just thought they went through ammo today - wait until we are on the firing line"...:p

That looks like alot of fun, i've driven by Raton, a hundred times i swear heading up to denver.

I allways say i should stop, but its right in the middle of a 12 hour drive and i just want to keep going.

I can't see the pictures.

All I see are red Xs.

Ah, that explains that.

You need a better hosting site, Larry, one that allows more than 2 or 3 picture downloads in a 24 hour period.

Try picturetrail.com

I'm new to this image hosting, but the pics showed up this morning. JPL, thanks for the advice, I'll have to wait until tonight when I'm at my home computer.

Das Pferd - Northern NM, south of Raton a few miles, east of Taos.

EDIT: I guess the pics will show up again tonight.

[shudder]

Why shudder?

I find New Mexico to be a particularly beautiful state.

I've spent a fair amount of time there for my company over the years (Los Alamos/Sandia).

Other than many areas being desolate as all get out, and Santa Fe and Taso being very expensive, the places I've been have been breathtaking.

Come to think of it, literally breathtaking.

They're at 4,000+ feet, whereas I'm at about 250 feet above sea level.

Slight difference in the O2 levels.

OK.

Gotcha.

Had you said shiver, instead of shudder, it would have penetrated the glob of grey putty between my ears...

Yes, it can certainly get cold there in the middle of summer.

I'm seeing 3 of the 6 now, which is a definite improvement. :)

Gorgeous country in the Sangre de Christos...
