Who carries a small caliber?

Being that primer mixture is distributed around inside of rim using .22LR or Mag for personal defense is like playing behind ole' curtain roulette with much higher chance of gun going off (vs 1 of 5,6,7,8,9). NO FANKS.

beretta .32acp is my back-up to my primary carry makarov 9X18
or the beretta when lightly dresses, shorts and t-shirt or swim trunks. if around a pool or swim area I stash the beretta in a carry-along grooming kit. w/a spare mag of course

I pocket carry a Keltec P32 quite a bit. Sometimes with the 10 rd mag, depending on the pockets I'm wearing. I use Winchester Silvertips and I'm confident they'll do the job if necessary.

OTOH, if the P3AT had been available at the time I got the P32 I would have bought it instead.

C. No one who decries the inadequacies of small calibers is going to volunteer to take 6 shots of .380 to his center mass.

Give the sister an Amen!!!

Most days the wife and I tote 45 or 357. Summer Church guns are 380

In Commonwealth of Va it is class 4 misdemeanor to carry any dangerous weapon into a place of worship, w/o good cause, while a religious meeting is under way...."

Colt Mustang .380

with hydrashok usually. Just fits really easily inside the waist band carried between hip and navel. (what do you call that? two o'clock?). :confused:I can wear a tshirt and have no issue of concealment.

Small v. Big

I was reading a few other posts and thought hit me. I also don't carry all the time, usually only when the situation warrants ( I know some say that trouble happens when you least expect it but I live in a pretty "safe" area so I take my chances as informed as I can be). The paradox for this is -if you have cause to be really concerned you ought to want the big guns as it seems remotely possible you may be required to use it as opposed to being Linus with his safety blanket going to buy milk at the 7-11

.32ACP and .380ACP

I usually carry either a .32ACP BERETTA Tomcat or a SIG 232 .380ACP with an aluminum frame.

The SIG 232 has replaced my 5 shot .38 Special. There is just no comparison. The SIG holds 8 rounds, feels great in my hand, can be fired 150 rounds at a time at the range, without my hand getting sore and best of all, came with NIGHT SIGHTS.
The sights on the SIG are so much better than any of the fixed sight J-frame sized guns, I might as well be shooting a larger pistol like the GLOCK 19 or SIG 229. They are that good, for me at least.

It also helps that I can shoot the SIG better than any 5 shot .38 Specia I have tried. I have used CHARTHER ARMS, SMITH & WESSON and TAURUS models, both aluminum and steel framed.

I have carried the 5 shot .38 Special for many years when off duty. Then I tried the BERETTA Tomcat and found it concealed better and was much faster to reload.
I was carrying the BERETTA on a daily basis for about a two years when my wife fell in love with it and I went back to the S&W model 38 until I tried the SIG 230. I liked it so much, I bought the lightweight version of the 232 for carry.

I used .32ACP COR BON Powerball for carry in the BERETTA. I never found a hollow point that was 100% in it. The Powerball, with its polymer tip has been as reliable as ball ammo, for me.
I would also use this ammo in "CLASSIC" pocket guns chambered for .32ACP like the COLT 1903 Pocket Pistol or the WALTHER PPK. The COLT is a blast to shoot and quite accurate.

In the SIG, I use .380ACP REMINGTON 88 grain JHP. This ammo feeds as reliable as ball and is priced even lower that some ball ammo. I buy the hundred round boxes and use if both for carry and practice.
I have tried other ammo like the FEDERAL Hydro Shok round and it is only about 98% reliable in the SIG.

In the .38 Special, I carried FEDERAL Nyclad 125 grain hollow points. I hoarded a small stash for years and bought several boxes after they reintroduced it.

As my body grows more feeble with age, I can envision downgrading a bit. I still favor .357 mags in my SP101 revolvers, but practice is becoming less pleasant these days. I do have an SP101 chambered in .32 H&R, though before I carry it, I will probably downgrade to .38 Special in the .357 chambers.

On really rare occasions, I will tote just a Seecamp LWS-32 as my only firearm. This is a technical violation of my employer's rules, as my PD mandates a minimum of .380 ACP. A smaller cartridge is only OK if backing-up a .380 or larger. (Off-the-clock handgun carry is optional, but if I am carrying, at least one weapon must be .380 ACP.)
