Not your CCW gun that you end up using for competition, but anyone carry their designated competition gun?

I bought my Beretta 92G Elite II as a competition gun when CCW was barely on the radar. I had it set up with the competition trigger job, CF grips et al. I ended up getting a P7M8 and USP45C with the intent to use them for CCW but still prefer to carry the 92G, although it is size and weight inefficient for a carry piece.

Anyone else?

well, my main competition gun is a 38 super open class gun with C more, so thats certainly not usually carried, although if you count the one time we broke down on the way home from a match, and i shoved it down my pants so it wouldnt be left in an abandoned car along the highway, I guess that counts.

But if I want to carry (and I dont always, some would say thats stupid, but whatever) I'll bring either my para p14, or Glock 17, both of which I also do use in competition. The para on steel and bowling pins and the occasional limited class shoots, and the Glock if there's some IDPA shoot I get the urge to go to, or if I want to shoot production class in ipsc. So yeah, I guess I do carry my competition guns, just not my primary one, it's too big.

My personal rule is that I don't compete with a pistol that I do not or would not carry. Shot many a pin match with my Kimber compact with the only mod being a green painted front sight. I carry my KZ 45 and will carry my DW Patriot once it reaches the requiste reliability level. I am having an occassional FTRB with my hand loads, playing with the crimps a little to cure it and after 500 rounds of good service with my plates ammo and a couple of hundred gold dots It will spend lots of time on the belt. Money and time are in too short a supply to stay proficient with diverse sighting systems and configurations. Do I win very often??No but I generally place fairly high in the iron sight divisions of my shoots. BTW i don't powder puff my loads for competition. I shoot 200 gr LSWC in the 900-950 FPS range. Same or higher PF than 230 ball.

I am sure you are going to get a lot of answers like mine, and I don't think this is what you are looking for.
I use the same gun (most of the time) for competition, gun schools, carry, training, plinking, hunting etc. All the rest of those guns in my safe get taken out once in awhile for a little informal playing but not all that often.
I didn't modify it for competition, even when I used it for IPSC back before there was a class for it. I don't own any race guns although I am not opposed to it. I just never had the money and that was all I wanted to spend it on. I also don't shoot the gun I do because I want to train and compete with my carry gun. It just turns out that way. When I open the safe and want a gun that I know is reliable and accurate along with one I am totally familiar with, my Colt 1911 series 80 is the one I grab.

Full-size Kimber .45 - Nice trigger job, Chip McCormick trigger, Ed Brown oversized mag catch, Wilson extractor and mag well. Brazos Lightning Rod front sight and MMC adjustable rear. Skateboard tape on the front strap :)

With 10-round Power-Mags it's my limited gun.

With 8-round Power-Mags it's my winter carry gun.

I don't own a pistol that I haven't both CCW'ed and competed with. Well, besides my Ruger MkII, but that's not exactly a defensive caliber, and I don't have a holster for it anyway.

Well, for IDPA, the whole idea is to practice for real-life scenarios. I see all sorts show up with all sorts of gear and guns that are not practical for daily use/carry. I want to practice with what I carry and that is what I do. The only difference being that I carry and extra mag for matches. I use the same gun, the same mags, the same flashlight, the same holsters/carriers, etc.

The only firearm I've bought with an eye towards competition is my Python. I have carried it, but only a couple times. My regular carry piece I've had for 20+ years. I do shoot IDPA with it, but that was not the intent of the purchase.

I compete with my carry gun (single-stack Springfield)...or is it carry my competition gun? I can never get it straight. And (in IDPA, at least) I also use my carry mags (7-rnd Wilson's w/ low-profile pads).

Well, I'll buck the trend. I shoot an N-framed 625 in IDPA, and carry a J-framed 340 or (occasionally) a K-framed 66 in real life. I regard IDPA as sport, for the most part, but I'm confident that some habits carry over across these similar platforms. Just not reloads, which (if/when I carry them) are in the form of a speedstrip, not two full moonclips. ;)

My daily carry is a Springfield 1911 (full size) single stack carried in a belly band, and I also use it for IDPA. My 3gun pistol is a Kimber poly double stack, (no capacity restrictions there!) and I also use it for carry in a Rosen pancake holster whenever I can go out with a coat or an untucked shirt.

Those are really the only pistols I compete with or carry. I do occasionally carry a Makarov in a fanny pack when I work out. Other than that my carry guns are my competition guns.

I carry my IPSC gun.

Or I compete with my carry gun. Norinco/Kart/BoMar/Videcki/Ed Brown/Hogue 1911, dehorned and parkerized, and packed in a copy of a Milt Sparks Summer Special. :D

Ummm, well the G24 was originally advertised for "competition". I also saw a lot of discussions about using it for "tactical" purposes, saw some interesting velocities, & bought one (trijicons & NY1 spring) that sees carry when the advantages seem useful...

Otherwise, my carry pistols see IDPA as a test bed to keep my head on straight...

My only dedicated competition gun is a Pardini SPE, which is about as impractical for carry as it is possible to get. It's a five-shot .22LR pistol with a red-dot sight, a 3# trigger, no safety of any kind, and orthopedic target stocks. About as concealable as a shoebox, too.

My other guns fall more into the catagory of "carry guns I compete with," not the other way 'round.

I practice/compete the most with my Hi-power clone. When I get around to CCW, I'll likely carry it.
