I was talking to 10-ring and Twoblink and trying to sort out my purchasing logistics, and told them I'm going to purchase to try to complete a collection.

Does anyone else purchase in themes or small collections? Having a theme will gives me a purchasing goal that will eventually give me a feeling of completeness, as opposed to impulse buying the Skinkenkatze Pistole der Woche.

Collections--

Beretta 92G-Thangs:
92G Elite II
92G Elite -- My TRP (tactical range pimp) base gun. Fits in my Elite II holster.
92G Vertec IA -- training gun after .22 conversion.
92G-SD -- Ghost gray base gun. Fits in same holster as Vertec.

USP45s:
Compact. I figure since I'm doing all my Berettas for competition I'll end up carrying my 45C.
Fullsize. Rainy day carry gun (with 2 spare mags and compact on weak side a la El Tejon).
Expert: Limited 10 gun if I don't feel like shooting Production.

It helps keep logistics simple, and it'll give me more of a feeling of completeness than say, buying a USP45C and a fullsize 9mm, which don't really go together.

Your thoughts? Where's my medication?

my "theme" is based on logic and reason. My first major purchase was an M-1 .30 which is now the odd-ball of my collection. This was added to my .16 Mossberg and 9mm Ruger revolver. After this it was another .16 Mossberg (Maverick), 2 .223 Mini-14's, 2 10/22's, an Intra-Tec 9mm and Sport .22 and a Kel-Tec sub 2000 9mm. Point being that my ammo is limited to .30, 9mm, .22LR, .223 and .16's - the K.I.S.S. Principle - Keep It Simple - Stupid!

My collection...

I like how this feels, I'll buy it!
I like how that looks, I'll buy it!
I like how this shoots, I'll buy it!

I originally wanted to try and set a goal, but there are too many 1911s, and I might get sick if I got every Glock. So I always liked quantity, along with quality, so if I can get both, either old, new, used, boxed, I'll get it or plan, or look. I'm just an everything shopper!

Themes?

.22... check
9mm... check
.45 acp... check
.357...check but need more
milsurp... check but growing
94 Lever action... check
12 ga.... check

and then there are the knives :D

Adios

I with you skunk.....sort of.

2 - Para Ordnance P14.45 Limiteds (Fullsize, Double stack)
1 - Springfield Champion (4", Single stack)
1 - Kimber Ultra CDP (Compact, SIngle Stack)
1 - Colt Gov't 380 (ittybitty pea shooter)

All have the same controls in the same spot. (Easier training, no confusion under stress) All have same sights and similar trigger & grip.

There is about where my themes stops.

I do sort of have a cowboy theme set:

2 - Uberti Outlaw in 45LC
1 - Win 94 in 45LC
1 - Sharps Replica in 45-70

I looked at what I have & realized I have themes going as well:

Sticking only w/ my HK's:
P7M8
Expert 45, USP 45, USP 9, USPc 9 & damn you SKunk, I need a USPc 45 now too! oh, and I've got a HK4 in the mix too :fire:

THe theme? That my medication level isn't high enough:banghead:

Skunk, flip a coin, if it lands on heads you buy every HK in the USP lineup, tails you buy all the Beretta 92's that you need..

Then, once you have all the Berettas and HK's that you need, maybe you could move on and TRY ANOTHER BRAND...

There is life beyond Beretta and Heckler & Koch..

Try it, you might like it..:neener: :neener:

I started with one each of all the "major" action types with some impulse purchases inbetween

Semi:
Single
double
DAO
Safe
Squeeze cocker

Revolver:
single
Double

Rifle
lever
semi
singleshot
bolt
pump

Shotgun
pump
semi
side by side

etc

Now I have moved on to one pistol from each member of the guild. I envison that will take allot of time and money.

I've started buying 357 mags,older S&W's and want at lease one in every frame size.So far i've got a 3" M-60 with adjustable sights,3" M-65 and a 6" M-28,now if i can find a nice L frame i'll be happy;)

Benelli makes handguns but they are assault .22s in California until they were exempted by an amendment.

I had a Kimber (sold) and have a KZ45 (selling soon). I keep trying the 1911 thing and it just doesn't work for me :(

Skunk, I'm older and more wise so listen to my logic.
Purchase every thing that appeals to you as you can manage. After 30 or so years sort what you have purchased into
"themes/collections"

Much easier this way. :)

I only buy guns in black.

Except for the Ruger Mk II slabside target pistol that is stainless with wood grips...

And the Bushmaster Purple M4gery, of course....

actually I was trying to achieve a goal of one gun a month when I lived in Virginia but only got up to about one or two a year.

Is buying as many guns as you can afford considered a theme?

I guess I do have a "theme" going. There's certainly a method to my madness (within my own disturbed mind, of course).

I'm on my way to "collecting":

Handgun: .22 LR (revolver and semi); 9mm (semi); .45 ACP (semi); .357 mag and/or (probably AND) .44 mag (revolver)

Rifle: .22 LR (bolt and semi); .223 (semi); .308 (bolt and semi); 7.62x39mm (semi)

Shotgun: 12-ga. (pump and semi)

May add a couple of others, but once I get that list finished (and I'm almost there), then the purchases will be very few and very far between.

Benelli makes the MP-90 and MP-95 target pistols. Unfortunately, I think they have stopped importing them as of a year or two ago. Looking for an MP-90 at a good price myself (less than $1200 NIB).

My theme is pretty simple. If it shoots lead or jacketed lead and it looks appealing to me, it'll be either in my safe or on my list.

I "think" I'm about done with my Collection. All I can see in the future is a snubbie .357 (SP101), a .45 ACP (P220 or CZ97) and maybe a semi 12 ga to complement the pump.

Each of my guns has a 'role':
Home defense (Beretta 96fs)
Big Bore Revolver (.44 Redhawk)
Target pistol for Pins (Mark II)
.357 (killed 2 birds on this one: Desert Eagle)
couple cowboy guns (Vaquero .45 and Marlin 1894)
.22 rifle for cheap rifle plinking
Bushmaster Varminter (for bigger rifle, as well as the whole Evil Black Assault Rifle deal)
12 ga pump (home defense, skeet)
Contender for hand load development (never realized in this role, just have one SSK .44 Mag barrel)
and an AMT Automag II that was supposed to be a pin gun, but is too damn finiky for competition shooting...grumble.
Oh, and my Beretta mod 21 for a BUG if MO ever gets CCW. (would back up the 96 or that SP 101...)

So, anyways, guess what I'm trying to say is, I bought my guns with a particular role or job in mind...

I think I have most of the basics pretty well covered. Looking to get a couple custom or semi-custom rifles made, a 257 Roberts AI carry and a 6.5x284 long range rifles. I'd really like a P7M8 and a 210 but being a diehard 1911 and 45 ACP guy, I'm afraid I may be converted.

But I have gone through spurts... I'll buy up a bunch of 1911s, then go through several 9mms, then a whole crap load of bolt action rifles now I'm on to fairly economical surplus rifles.

I guess you could say I go through waves. ;)

Lessee...I have seven 1911's, and nine single shot rifles, I guess those be my two themes...

Interesting as I buy the 1911's for practical reasons, my preferred defensive weapon. The single shots are mainly for hunting and other aesthetic reasons.

I have only three bolt action rifles...a Krag, a Ruger .22, and a FN Mauser .30-06. Guess I will have to do something about that:)

OK my new HK theme: German police models:
P8: USP9F
P10: USP9C
P12: USP Tactical (when I leave Cali)
P7M8
P2000

Beretta post Elite II traditional frame G-thangs:
92G Elite II
92G-SD

Gotta catch 'em all!
