Who disabled the lock on their S&W Airweight?

Would you carry a gun with a trigger lock in place? Of course you wouldn't.

Carrying a no-lock 642, a locker 642 that's had the lock disabled, or a locker 642 that's intact are all the same thing.

Why? Because that lock, or the lack thereof, is the same as an external trigger lock, or lack of one, when you store the gun at home. When you're carrying it for SD, the lock is always disengaged anyway.

How you store the gun at home has zero bearing on how you would be or ought to be carrying it.
Well said Sir, I agree...

To avoid all this crap I also bought a S&W Airweight without a lock. I was very happy when S&W reissued their M642, M442 and M&P 340 without a lock installed. I bought both Airweights but didn't buy the Airlite. Now, if they would only make a no-lock M438 I would be in heaven considering finding a +P rated M38 for sale is almost impossible! (I just love the Bodyguard frame)

Can anyone come forward with proof of the S&W locks in question failing? Anyone? We have locks on the doors to our home. They have yet to cause any problems with the doors, and they get used lots more then my S&W with the lock.

A pet peeve of mine is gun rumors, and tall tales from the gun world.
The problem with the lock in the S&W revolvers, the default state is locked. If a tiny spring fails the gun disables itself. I would have much less a problem with a lock that had no possibility of disabling the revolver if it fails. (other than it's ugly) Ruger, Taurus and a few others also have locks but they are not intrusive and will not disable the handgun. I'm betting there are many here who don't even know Ruger revolvers have locks on them and that's because it's under the grips and the default state is unlocked, not locked like the S&W revolvers.

ArchAngelCD-- I think you covered it well.
