Who buys 100 PPU 25-06 cases from cabela's, loads and shoots about 30 of them then returns the whole bunch to Cabela's? My buddy purchase 2 100 packs of PPU 25-06 brass from the bargain cave when he picked up his 25-06. I looked at the packs when he purchased them and noticed that one was taped up and had a ziplock bag in it but didn't think anything about it until today when I opened the pack and noticed writing on some of the cases then noticed that some of the cases in the ziplock had been fired. Looks like some of the cases were weighted and there weight written on the case with black sharpie and some of the cases were loaded with 4350 by the writing on the case. Guess one bonus is my scale gets the same case weight reading as who ever returned these. We wonder why companies make there return policies harder and harder.

There is a market for "once fired brass" As long as everyone is upfront about what is being bought and sold I'm not seeing an issue.

There were 3 bags of brass in the bargain cave my buddy grabbed 2 of them, one is new PPU like one would buy off the shelf the other has the 30 pieces of fired brass in it. I assume it was returned new brass as both were the same price.

Probably they took the brass back thinking it was like it was sold, later discovered that some had been "tampered with" and discounted them to get rid of them.

I have shot the .25/06 since 1969 .... I have made cases out of several other calibers .... I've also used "used" brass ....

As long as the brass has not been mistreated in a manner that would make it not useful .... then all is well .... you got it out of the bargain bin ....you had to know something was different or else it would not have been in that bin .... it may take an extra step or it may work just fine as it is ... I'd look at the brass length and for any sign of over loading .... may keep those brass separate from the others ....

We do not know the facts. My GUESS is that the original purchaser found something with that brass that indicates he felt it was defective or unsatisfactory in some way. Just from the markings you found, it am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was skilled and meticulous in his testing. If he did find something unacceptable with the brass, then returning it was absolutely the correct thing to do.

If those guesses are at all accurate, I commend Cabela's for standing behind their product and accepting the return. Re-selling the product as a "bargain" sale was reasonable - they did not try to hide anything.

The brass was sold with 3 other bags as new brass $2 less then an off the sales floor price. My point is who buys cheap PPU brass, finds the case weights are not up to Lapua standards, shoots some of the brass then returns it after writing on 20+ cases with a sharpie? Basically its low class in my book. Sure it appears that the fired cases were only fired once and all other indicators has me throwing it into the once fired brass pile. I would never think about returning 100 pieces of brass if I fired some but then again I knew what I was getting before purchasing PPU brass to start with.

Personally I wouldn't care. That was $4 to go towards bullets.

It sound like Cabela's was taking care of their customer.

I've been in retail. I'd do most things that the customer asked. I was rarely asked something I thought sounded unreasonable. I've returned things from other companies. If it was something I sold I put it in my shelf if not I through it in the trash but I wanted them to know if they needed something I'd be there to take care of them. I enjoyed happy costumers that like to shop at my store. I also enjoyed those bonus checks I got every quarter. The company enjoyed I keep making them a profit.

If your not happy about the brass maybe they will take it back again. I don't shop there so I don't know how they do things.

Good luck.

I don’t blame the original customer for returning the bag of brass if he found it to be sub par. I commend Cabela’s for trying to satisfy their customer by taking it back.

That said, could it be that instead of putting only the returned bag of brass in the bargain bin at a discount and leaving the two unopened bags at regular price, Cabela’s figured the two unopened bags were no better than the returned one so they put all 3 bags in the bargain bin at a discount? Just asking.

Good evening,
A friend's wife worked at a retail stores clothing department several years ago. Their return policy was "No questions asked we take it back" She used to say a lot of their customers didn't need washing machines. They just returned all the dirty clothes and went over to the racks and got new ones. She said school pictures were the worst.....Johnny/Jane would need new clothes for the picture and then all were returned for a full refund.
I have bought boxes of bullets marked with a number and discounted accordingly. When I asked the salesperson, they said they were returned because they didn't like them. I asked if they got a full refund...YES was the answer. I bought a box of 500, 44 SWC that was stickered 450 for 60% off, another box of 100 .308 marked 78 for $5.00. The counts were accurate. So I guess load a box(50) and take the rest back? Or a box(20) and a couple? Cuts the /round costs down. It takes all kinds to make the world go round!

That isn't most of the customer base tho. At the end of the day all that matters is that your customers are happy & it's a profitable day.

If I had an employ that it bothered I'd remind them that it wasn't their money & to keep up the good work taking care of the customers.

When I sold food I even took back good when a customer didn't like it. My customers were dumbfounded that I'd offer to return food. But they wasn't afraid to try new food ether. My boss never complained since he seen the results in my sales. I out sold him & I suck at being a salesman. All I do is tell them what i have, give my truthful opinion if asked, & take their order.

In the automotive field if also offer some advice & recommend related parts when I had the chance.
