I noticed that whenever I watch a movie that whenever shooting starts I immediately take note of what kind of gun is being used and start counting rounds. I usually know exactly how many shots the actors have left, even when the directors do not. I guess this habit is a hold over from IDPA. Do any of you automatically count rounds?

I do it all the time. I just love the unlimited round mags they carry all the time.

I normally won't count each shot, but when i notice that the shooter has shot around 30 rounds i start to get a little annoyed.

Same here.

I was really enjoying "The Sons of Katie Elder" until it got to the end scene. Apparently John Wayne and Dean Martin are just so good that they don't need to reload.

There are 33 round mags for Glocks. I'm sure other handguns have similarly large magazines available.

They are usually not being used in most movies. If i see a magazine protruding from the end of the gun it would probably be more acceptable.

OTOH, at the end of MI:3, the hero's girlfriend gets a good 30-second lesson on the use of a 92fs before actually firing 15 rounds before the slide locks back.

Ed Harris' character in "A Beautiful Mind", at one point shoots a 1911 at a car full of pursuing Russki spys. 10 or 12 rounds, maybe, fired.

A sign of the main character's delusion, or the script writer's?

As long as we're on the subject of movies and guns....

Am I the only one that gets annoyed when watching movies at the way EVERY gun *clicks* whenever it is pointed at ANYTHING?

Draws gun *click*
Points at bad guy *click*
Points at other bad guy *click*
Points at noise *click*
Points at *click* noise *click*
Endless *click* loop

I rarely watch movies. The technical inaccuracies (of all kinds) inherent in movies really inhibits my ability to enjoy a film.

I once knew a guy that used to evaluate movies based on 'boom' factor. I think he actually catologued the number of shots fired for each movie or the number of seconds of automatic weapons fire, or the amount of muzzle flashes or something, and graded them accordingly. That's way over the top for me, but he was a nice enough fellow to converse with.

In Last Man Standing, Bruce Willis repeatedly shows his skills at quickly dropping the magazines of his twin 1911s, which actually do run out of bullets. What you don't get to see is how he holds a 1911 in each hand and reloads them both.

Having the old TV series COMBAT! on DVD I have noticed that Sgt. Saunders' Thompson seems to have a 1000 round magazine ... somehow disquised as a 30 round military-issue mag. Rarely does he ever change mags.
Also, when he does need a new mag he finds them inside his magic jacket ... I didn't realize soldiers stored Thompson mags there ...:confused:
Anyway ... it doesn't prevent me from enjoying the old series.

I'll freely admit that I count rounds due to extensive time playing Infiltration for UT in years past. The habit transitioned to real life.

It's been a while since I saw COMBAT!, but as I recall, it's a laugh a minute.

12 O'clock High is another great one, mainly because it takes itself so seriously.

Then you gotta love the old Western movies--Hopalong Cassidy, Tom Mix, Roy Rogers, et.al.. They carried 60 shooters, not 6 shooters.
