Who else counts rounds at the movies?

I too am guilty of round counting in movies and tv.

Of course I do it while shooting myself or while watching others shoot. Not as much on purpose as subconsciously.

It amazes that the good guys always hit their targets and the bad guys always miss the good guy.

Where Eagles Dare

Clint Eastwood is a VERY good shot. The few hundred German soldiers he shoots are VERY bad shots. Still, a great movie to watch.:)

Clint eastwood? what about Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Each time he picks up a Krink he mows Russkies down like chord wood from the hip while They keep missing him, shooting properly from cover. I don't think those of us here can help but count the shots on screen.

On the Sci-fi channel was Komodo dragon vs Cobra. The dudes were shooting handguns at the dragon with no effect. They were 50 round Beretta 92s, IIRC. They also used both fingers from each hand on the triggers.

For the most part I gave up counting rounds in movie guns when I was about 12, and my friend and i realized that there was no way those cowboys has 18 shooters.

Still though, now and again, I realize that someone has fired x number too many in some movie or another.

I often do notice though when someone reloads after the right amount of rounds was fired. Go figure.

All the best,
GB

In the movie Open Range, at the start of the big gun battle, Kevin Costner fires about 14 rounds from his revolver. He does a fanning of the gun where in that sequence he fires more than 6 rounds while walking towards the bad gun.

Handsome Stranger: This is a seven-shot six-shooter, and I had it especially made.
Charming Jones: Why?
Handsome Stranger: Why?
Charming Jones: Yeah...
Handsome Stranger: I dunno.

Post #5: "Apparently John Wayne and Dean Martin are just so good that they don't need to reload."
No, they just do it so fast you can't see it. I'm working on that with mag changes.

Actually this is a pretty good habit to cultivate. If heaven forbid you actually get into a long protracted shootout it would be good to know when you AND the bad guy have to reload.

I do this all the time and it drives my wife crazy! She always asks "can't you just enjoy the movie?"
I think the only thing worse than bottomless mags is when the slide locks back and you keep hearing bangs! And the endless cocking of the hammer, and the mysterious double action 1911's that keep hitting empty chambers, and the zero recoil Desert Eagle, and... I'll stop now.

now that i'm into guns i nitpick the gun crap. i was into cars, so i nitpicked car stuff too. same with computers. now it seems like every movie has something car, gun, or computer crap in it so now i can't enjoy anything, lol.

I counted the shotgun rounds in the New Batman

Didn't even think about it, just started. I was happily surprised with the round count, although bringing a shotgun to a protracted gunfight seems shortsighted.

Most of the time gun use, round count, shooting on the run, etc. just tees me off.

Ever try the Bruce Willis stance with a 1911 in each hand? Forget reloading. Just shooting one mag out of each gun is tough. I put up a IDPA target at 6-7 yards. Brought both guns up, to get a sight picture you have to have them both up in front of your eyes, eye width apart. I found alternating fire worked best. Right gun, left, right, and so on. I could put all the rounds in the target, but it wasn't great, and the target was both stationary and not shooting back:D

I've been counting rounds ever since Agent Smith put twelve rounds into Neo's chest with a Desert Eagle .50AE without reloading. Then again, rules don't really apply in the Matrix so I can't complain.

I count. The other thing that bugs me is how actors constantly cycle the action of every gun they handle. Sometimes they will cycle the same one 3 or 4 times.

Just got through watching the Mummy. I really want one of the Lewis guns from that movie. They clearly have 47 rounds mags on them but shoot 5 second burst over and over. Which is about a mags worth, but no reloads!! Gotta love the movies.

I didn't really care for constant racking of a shotgun before shooting it. The joker does it in the scene where he shoots the cop from inside the big rig.

I don't bother unless they are using revolvers. Dirty Harry and India jones reloead in their movies. I like I Robot with that submachine gun. Hosing down robots for a couple minutes with one stick mag.

Apparently in American History X, the gun he's using is able to put 5 into the guy on the porch, 3 into the dude running across the lawn, and 16 into the getaway car before the slide locks back...

The A-Team is horrible about that.
Not only do they never change the magazines on the Mini-14s, but they never manage to hit anyone either.

I'm not sure if its just supposed to be a different camera angle or not but Doc Holiday (Val Kilmer) manages to fire 3 rounds from his side by side shotgun in the OK corral scene in "Tombstone."

You have to realize that during filming the actors are shooting these scenes over and over and often not in chronological sequence.

Director: Now pull the slide back, that looks so awesome!
Actor: Ok, like this ;)
Accuracy Analyzer: No, you did that last scene---you can't do it again!
Director: Shut-up, nobody will notice on the big screen
Actor: And I look sooo cool!
