Who else goes to the range alone?

My friend and I both collect and shoot the same types of guns. We hit all the local shows that are within 2 hour drive. So , we are usually always at the local range at least once a week. We both re-load, so its affordable. Its one hobby/sport my wife doesn't do, but doesn't mind that I do. But, since I was laid-off last friday,(knew it was coming), I have been to the range twice alone. Enjoyed it. Shot a while and spent a little time digging in the backstop. Filled a 5 gallon bucket 1/2 way with spent lead. Plinkin lead as I call it. Enjoy, Be safe, Bob

I do go alone pretty often, but lately I have been going with my dad to the rifle range on saturdays where he acts as my spotter. It's definitely more enjoyable to spend time with my dad AND shoot at the same time, but I still enjoy shooting alone sometimes too. I prefer to have my spotter at the rifle range (iron sights, 100 yards) but at the pistol range where it's easy to see my own hits it works out fine too.

Most of time I shoot alone. Years ago my wife went along but it was a pain keeping her 5904 loaded she couldn't load the magazines you know she'd might break a nail :banghead: She sometimes goes along today but uses a wheel gun.

I like my time alone to think and shoot and I know some who like to try and impress people I'm not one.

My club range doesn't have a lot of traffic and if off by its self so one thing I recommend if you shoot alone NEVER leave the range without a loaded gun over the years I've finished shooting a seedy character shows up they're not a member just looking the place over maybe wanting to join? You never know who you may run into. One time I alone had finished shooting my M-1A Super Match and no ammo and a couple of guys show up and ask the normal questions about the rifle etc. and then they ask if I've got any ammo they could see? I said no but then took my jacket off so they could see my 1911 in condition 1 in my waist ban. Seems then the conversation came to a stop and they left. They were not members but looking the place over to join?

You never know.

I go alone if I'm going for training purposes. If it's just to plink, there will usually be someone with me.

I go alone as it’s the only ‘me time’ I get away from the family and work.

There are always likeminded people at the range so I’m not literally ‘alone’ when I shoot.

Almost always alone. I am usually shooting loads that I have worked up and am using a chronograph and logging data. I wouldn't be a very fun date. Ocassionally I'll bring a milsurp with some surplus ammo and just kill paper, and then I'll invite my wife. I usually end up shooting solo then too. She'll go if we're going to shoot pistols, but I'm more into rifles, so those outings are few and far between.

I go alone all the time. I have a group of friends that shoot but we are never able to get to the range at the same time. Which is fine.

I go alone quite often. My most frequent range campanions are my sons and I fear that they're slowly starting to lose their interest in shooting.

I go alone almost all of the time. OTOH, I usually run into someone I know.

Before my father decided to move to assisted living last year we would go to the range he belonged to (actually, come to think of it, I was a member too) and then take my mother out to lunch. She would sit in the car in the shade and read for a couple of hours while we shot. It was a beautiful spot on a hill overlooking a small river valley.

I have 3 scenarios:
1) Lone Ranger: Go alone, shoot alone. Total focus, ZEN state, decompression and maximum skill-building. At these times, I am totally inwardly focused. I don't even know what's going on in adjacent lanes (other than basic safety state recognition.)

2) Travel to a meet. Go alone to meet nice people. e.g. steel shoots where like-minded types get together and share good times. Can include BBQ breaks, competitions, weapons-sharing, and training sessions.

3) Friends/Family outings: At these times, I am the host and provider. I bring the firearms and ammo. I monitor their behavior to insure safety, provide helpful hints, help them to have a relly-good-time. It's all about them, and is not a shooting day for me at all.

I don't HAVE a 4th scenario --- shared shooting with friends/family.
I wish I did, but won't complain.
What I got is good!

Nine times out of ten (especially if I am "working" on something; a new load, new gun/other piece of equipment, etc) I go alone and prefer it that way. To go with a buddy on that sort of trip requires that he be of the same mindset that I am; there to accomplish the same goals with his equipment, and I only have one shooting buddy like that... he moved away, so we don't get to shoot that much together anymore.

I will occassionally go on a "fun trip" with other people, but that is a totally different mindset/purpose for the range visit.

I usually like to go with a friend or with my step-dad. But if no one is available, I'm just as happy to go alone. The only downside to going alone is leaving all my gear laying on the table if I have to use the restroom or go into the shop to buy more ammo, targets, etc.

I usually have at least one person with me, but I get a LOT more accomplished when I go alone. Most skill building is done when I'm by myself. Whenever someone else is there I don't get to concentrate on what I need to do. I want to get some precision rifle practice in, they want to shoot handguns. I want to get some drawing/firing from concealment done, well practice is cut short so we can hit the rifle range. Now that it's summer I can go after work sometimes, that helps.

If you consider bringing a dog along as be alone, then yep I shoot alone. I do bring the wife and kids out sometimes, but mostly it's just me and the dog.

well, it's not technicaly a range, but i go out to the woods and shoot alone all the time. sometimes i will bring the dogs and let them wander. i just keep track and make sure they do not end up in the line of fire. i usually take at least 2 guns, one pistol, and 1 or more long gun(s). next time out, i NEED to take my muzzle-loader. it still needs to be sighted in on the open sights, then mount the scope and sight that in. sounds like a most of the day affair.

I enjoy shooting with a friend occasionally, but mostly go to the range alone.

Shooting with a buddy is a good social occasion and allows me the opportunity to try out different firearms which is fun.

But I usally prefer going alone because:

1) I can go on the spur of the moment with little or no planning.

2) During the drive I can think about what I want to accomplish during the session.

3) I can smoke a cigar on the way to the range.

4) When I get to the range I can focus on my game plan, my breathing, and shoot at my own pace.

5) I can stay as long as I want and take the time to go over my groups.

6) I can browse at the gun shop for as long as I want.

Often, especially when sighting in a new scope, testing ammo, or otherwise "breaking in" a new gun. A friend along is a good thing, but I'm happy either way.

I go alone most of the time, because that is the way that I prefer it most of the time. I have time at work, time with the wife, time with the guys, but range time is MY time!

If I'm going to "work" on something, which I usually am, I go alone. If I'm going for plinking or some friendly competition, I go with a group.

If I'm trying to get something accomplished (sight in a rifle, determine how well a particular gun likes a load, work on group sizes or handling techniques) I find other people to be a distraction.
