They both seem like solid choices, and I want to start actively supporting the one who really has a better chance at the nomination and the win. What do you guys think? I personally like Ron Paul's view of the constitution, but I have heard that Fred Thompson has a better chance of winning. I have to admit, that I do know more about Ron Paul than I do with Thompson, but I am working on reading up on both of them.

I have heard of Ron Paul. I think if more people know about him then more people will vote for him. His views are better for lack of a better word. He just needs more hype and publicity.

IMO Thompson. The religious conservatives are already trying to 'draft' him. That is a huge boost to any one running.

More people have heard of him and seen his face on tv. I've never heard of Ron Paul, until recently, and only fron the gun talk forums.:)

I'm obviously biased, but... :D

Ron Paul is a legend within certain segments of the gun community, but has very little recognition with the average citizen. If you asked 10 perfect strangers to identify him by either name or face, I doubt that even one of them could do it. OTOH, you'd probably find a few folks who could identify Thompson as "that guy on Law & Order/Hunt for Red October/Paul Harvey/ect." He's familiar, and immediately likable.

Still, at this early juncture, there's no reason to rule out a Thompson/Paul or Paul/Thompson ticket...

Fred Thompson, if he runs, will become the next POTUS.

I can see a Thompson/Hunter or Thompson/Rice ticket totally destroying the dems hopes to control all three houses again. :D

I like Ron on gun issues. It is on Foreign policy that his thinking disqualifies him from being taken seriously.

Who is Ron Paul? I never heard the name until I saw it here in these forums. Asking around here at the office, nobody has heard of him. Regardless of his positions, people aren’t going to vote for a candidate they don’t know.

Fred Thompson, all the way.

In our bread & circuses driven world, likely Fred Thompson has a better shot at the moment, simply due to the media exposure he's had.

With regards to the name recognition thing, I've known about Dr. Paul for a lot longer than I have known about Mr. Thompson. Maybe that's because online I travel in more than the "very small shooting community" and pay attention to who is serving and what they do in congress.
It is on Foreign policy that his thinking disqualifies him from being taken seriously.
Can you elaborate on this? From what I've read about his views on the subject (both from others and his own pen), he is following the path blazed by some others who probably also should not have been taken seriously. If that had happend though, we all still be subjects of the British Crown.

I've never heard of Fred Thompson. I had to google him.

Ron Paul attracts a broader range of people, and the first time I heard of him was not here, but on a radio show fan site. He IS known to people who don't give a hoot about our cause.

Hell, there are Dems who like him.

I don't vote for candidates based on their fame.

The only potential candidate that believes in the Constitution of the United States is Ron Paul.

I'll be voting for Paul in the primary. There's a lot that can happen between now and then, though. A lot more people could find out about either or both.

America needs a guy like Ron Paul, but considering what has happened in the last few decades, he's the last person we deserve.

Never heard of Fred Thompson before I saw posts on him here. Still don't know who he is.

Voted Ron Paul. He's voted "incorrectly" one time as far as I know, and that was a moral issue for him. Hard to be too critical there.
