Taurus 22-PLY,,,

It's an 8+1 DAO semi-auto with a tip-up barrel.

33-scilla.jpg

It's about the same size as the Beretta,,,

PLY-ruler.jpg

It has very nice ergonomics,,,
It's very easy to shoot accurately.

I know you said you weren't interested in a .25 ACP,,,
But just in case another reader is interested,,,
They also make the 25-PLY.

Mine runs flawlessly with CCI Mini-Mags,,,
And it was only $201.00 new a year and a half ago.

Budsgunshop is out of them right now,,,
But they were last priced at $212.00.

I like mine a lot. :)
It's what I toss in my pocket for late night walks.

EDIT: Someone mentioned extractor claw,,,
This pistol does not have one.

To eject a dud round simply flip the barrel open,,,
That tosses the dud out of the chamber very well.

Someone also mentioned Stinger ammunition,,,
The case of Stinger ammo is longer than normal .22 LR ammo.

I have no data to back this up,,,
But anecdotal evidence shows some semi's don't like the longer case.

I choose not to use Stingers in my 22-PLY for that reason.

.25acp !

My 00.02 cent worth
IF [ I did say IF ] this was for S/D,then the 25acp can be counted on to fire and hold more rounds in the same sized pistol.
Not my 1 st,2 nd,or 3 rd choice but in a SMALL pocket semi auto - that's my choice.
btw - y'all forgot the tiny copy of the PPK that is no longer in production, had one and it JAMMED with .22's but not in 25acp

yes, the Iver Johnson TP22 is a Walther TPH clone but at about $250 instead of $650+....

Thanks, I always wondered how that worked out if you had a dud.
Flip the barrel up, slap it down, work the slide?

The Phoenix HP22A is a decent gun that is pocket sized. Maybe a little heavy. Spend 5 minutes and remove two of the 64 safeties and you have a decent little shooter. Decently accurate out to 20 yards which is about as far as I shoot it but mine will not handle subsonics.
Did I mention you need to spend a few minutes and get rid of the mag release "safety"?

I'd love a P32/P3AT/LCP in .22lr!
No I wouldn't use it for self defense. It would just be a hoot to shoot. Maaaaaybe better sights? Nah!
My wife and kids positively LOVE shooting my P32! Fits their hands, low recoil, light, and easy to work the slide. My wife says she even prefers it's trigger? "I get to the point where I think it's going to fire. I flinch, it doesn't fire. Then squeeze some more and it goes off." Sounds crazy but, she gets good accuracy out of that thing?
But, .32acp is not cheap and it throws brass in all conceivable directions. So reloading for economy isn't working out.

ok so theyre no longer made...explains why I haven't seen any in my LGS......
S&W made a gun that seems to be what a lot of folks want, then discontinue it? was it a poor seller because of high price or bad performance? is there a modern current production S&W .22powerhouse equivalent to the 2213?

The 422/622/2206 were good sellers, but the story is that S&W lost money on every one sold. They were labor intensive, with lots of hand fitted parts. They also were capable of excellent accuracy, and some say that S&W canned the line because it was drawing sales away from a true money-maker, the Model 41.

I really dont know the answer why S&W dropped the line. It wasnt high price, or bad performance. There is no current equivalent to the 2213/2214. The 22a is the low priced 22 autoloader in the S&W catalog. I guess you could say it took the place of the 422. Its a good shooter.

I bought what was advertised on craigslist as a "Smith 2214" today. Thanks to this thread I knew what it was. Thanks very much for those who gave the constructive input.

Thats great. You do understand that the rules say pictures, and a range report... right? MidwayUSA has the 8 round magazines available, and you can get the 12 round magazines there also. The 12 rounders are currently out of stock, but if you keep watching, they come and go. Congratulations on the 2214. They are great little pistols.

My Favorite 22 Pocket Pistol would be the Beretta! I like the tip up barrel as well and have always had great reliability from them. I also like the Taurus copy of the Beretta as well, like pictured in post above.

I have had both, but kept the Beretta... I like the wood grips and it does have a slightly smaller print! I also have it in .25 ACP which I also like for reliability issues and there is some great ammunition available in .25 ACP these days also.
