Hey all. This would be for plinking and the occasional coyote. Like the idea of the quick second shot on yotes. I've got a 22LR semi auto, so thinking a.22mag would fit the bill and give me a little more reach over what I have. And don't want to go to a.223 or a CF.

I haven't seen any manufacturers that make a semiauto 22 mag, so wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.

Ruger makes a 10/22 in 22WM. Magazine holds nine rounds, instead of the 22's 10-round.

Correction, Ruger USED to make them. Stopped in 2006.

Magnum Research still makes one. Probably Volquartson too.(both based on the Ruger 10/22 Magnum action)

And both with a pressure buffer to keep the cases from rupturing as the Ruger was prone to have happen.

You may want to look at this one:

"The CZ 512 is an entirely new semi-auto rimfire rifle from CZ. The modular design is easily maintained, requiring only a coin as a tool for field stripping. The action of the 512 is composed of an aluminum alloy upper receiver that secures the barrel and bolt assembly and a fiberglass reinforced polymer lower half that houses the trigger mechanism and detachable magazine. The 512 shares the same magazines and scope rings with the CZ 455 making it the perfect companion to your bolt-action rifle."

cal: .22 LR/.22 WMR, stock/finish: Wood/Blue

I just inherited a Henry .22 WMR lever action and it seems to be smooth as silk and very accurate. I took a quick look and they are still in production and the price is under $500. With a little practice, a lever can be as quick as lightning to shoot.

I really like this gun allot and I am not a big lever action guy. I wish I would have received it under different circumstances, but this is a great gun and it will see plenty of use.

Yup, the Rugers were/are a dog, so Ruger took them off the market.

My Remington has been 100% reliable, and is quite accurate!

I've had the Remington, it's a good gun. Marlin used to make one, the 922 and CZ/Brno made the 611. Excel made one and Majestic Arms has one on the drawing board that's an all steel, slightly larger version of the AR7 (minus the floating stock).

Thanks Guys, good info here. I checked on the Rem 597 and it is in production but their website only lists .22L as the available caliber. I did see some of these on gunbroker though, which I will definitly keep my ey on. And I wasn't aware of the CZ 512 it is listed on their website available in .22WMR. Man I think that is a nice looking piece of hardware! Listed at $479 not bad at all. Coincidently I just got a CZ452MS for christmas and am extremely impressed with it so will have to strongly consider this one. All comes down to $$. Great input guys, thanks again.

What's a "pressure buffer" and how does it work?
It's a spring piston inside the action that bleeds off a tiny bit of the chamber pressure at its peak. Smooths out the action of a semi-auto in .22 WMR which is notorious for exhibiting a sharp pressure spike late in the firing cycle. .17HMR exhibits the same problem.

perhaps a ruger 96/22 magnum....lever action
aesthetically similar to the 10/22 but quite a bit more reliable being a manual action

Marlin used to make a nice one, the 922M. They show up on the auction sites now and then, but the prices are getting a little crazy. The last one I saw went for over $500. I had one a few years ago that I got for $200 because it had some cosmetic flaws. I really regret selling it. :(
