Who makes long tube scopes these days?

I'm looking for a new scope with a long tube for my older (pre accu-trigger, flat back receiver) Savage 110 long action rifle. It originally came with a Simmons 32 mm objective scope, but it now has a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 scope (which is a pretty nice scope-especially at what I paid for it.)

The problem is that, with long action, I don't have adjustment of the scope position forward and back on the mounts. I only have about 2" from the turret to either bell. I want to push the scope further forward to get the right eye relief for the cheek weld that fits me. I can't do it because the rear bell and power adjustment ring bumps up against the rear scope ring.

My shopping thus far turns up only scopes nearly identical in dimensions to what I already have. who makes a scope that has a longer tube, (e.g. longer than the 5.6" on my Redfield) and longer distances between the turret and the bell? (e.g. longer than the 2.3" on my Redfield.) I think I need at least another inch.

I hope my only option isn't a picatinny type rail.

Can you reexplain this part? It might just be me but when I see long action, I assume that you mean that because it’s a long action that the rings are spread out to far?

Do you have a budget and or preference in glass?
I wouldn’t want to waste anyone’s time by putting out in example US Optics ____model, which has a longerish tube...
Also how much space do you have from the obj bell to the barrel? ( round about)
Some of that might give some of the guys something to work with in terms of giving some decent suggestions
:)

I believe Burris had a scope that would fit that bill back in the early 2ks, now i dont know who has something like that. If your ok with having higher rings you could go with weaver style extension rings, that should give you another 1/2-3/4" depending on the size of your power adjustment ring and ocular.

Honestly i ended up giving in and getting a rail for my old 7mm for the same reason. I mounted my nikon in low rings and the power adjustment ring was right above the back of the rail, probably had 1mm of clearance.

Longer eye relief scopes will help - look for 4" or better. Also, I have moved to a one piece rail base for my Savage LA rifles, to let me move the front ring back to a useful place.

Zeiss scopes are typically longer than most. The equivalent Terra 4-12x50 is just under an inch longer than your Redfield and might fit the bill. Some older models like the Conquest 1.8-5.5x38 are almost comically long for their optical specifications.

i put a older burris 2x7 on a ruger #1 to get the scope where i wanted it. but i think i would go for a one piece rail on the savage eastbank..

The Weaver #413 is cheap and works, but it may not help you because it doesn't move the rear mount forward. I have found the Bushnell Elite series scopes tend to be long.

ETA - I have never ever ever heard of anyone needing to move a scope *forward* on a Savage LA. The common complaint is that the actions are too long to get a proper eye relief; the scope can't be moved far enough to the rear.

I bought Weaver t-36 seen in my avatar out of necessity-too much money for Nightforce and too little money because of cancer bills. Measures 15 and three sixteenths without sunshade. 3" eye relief. Little dim if in bad position to sun. Fair optics. Shooting 500-800 so far. One third MOA at 800 so optics good enough for now. Does the job for me, for now.

Forgot, 3 and one half inches, middle of turret to bell. Same distance eye relief. If I remember right, I had to reverse the bases. Maybe doesn't fit the bill for you. Didn't want rail either.

Just seems odd there really aren't any scopes that fit. What do guys with newer 30-06 and larger guns do? Does everyone just use AR15 rails now?
