I had a Simmons scope atop my 3030 that was over 10yrs old. Over the last couple of years I noticed it was not as clear as I remember and was fogging up on a regular basis. In November I replaced the Simmons with a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33. After getting it mounted and bore-sighted I headed to the range for the real sight in. I was really impressed how quickly I was able to get this scope on at 100yds.

This particular model is usually compared to the Rifleman and the VX-1. IMHO, it is not any different than the VX-1 model. The adjustments seem to be the same exact types. They are not as stiff as the VX-2. The clicks are not as defined as the VX-2. I could not tell a difference in clarity or eye relief between the VX-1 and Redfield on low power or high power setting. IMHO it is a better scope than the Rifleman. The Rifleman did not seem to be as clear. (After seeing the clarity in the Rifleman, I put it down and never looked at it again)

Lastly, for those who care, the Redfield Revolution is designed, machined and assembled in the USA. If interested they are also coming with a $30 rebate until the 31st of this month (Revolution model only).

I hope this not very scientific review might help someone if they are debating whether to buy Redfield. I have bought scopes for less than $200 in the past and was never happy with the results. This is the first scope under $200 I have been truly pleased with. :)

Ive had a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 on my -06 for several years now. I have been extremely satisfied with it.

I bought a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 after my Chinease scope failed and it has been working well for three years. I really like how much you can see through it, when it is dark outside.

When the Redfield Revolution was introduced it was somewhere in between a VX-1 and VX-2 in quality, while priced cheaper than the VX-1. Truly a great bargain.

Since then Leupold upgraded the VX scopes with no price increase. If buying today the VX-1 is a slightly better scope, priced slightly higher. It is really a tossup and comes down to which reticle you like better and any deal you find.

On your 30-30 either of those in a 2-7X32 would be perfect. With a $30 rebate I'd lean toward the Redfield, at the same price, the VX-1.

Just over two years ago I put a Redfield Revolution 4-12x 40mm on a sporterized #4 MK I Lee-Enfield that previously had a Tasco 3-9x 40mm that had expired. For the money it cost I'm impressed and real happy with the optics which compare nicely with all of my Leupolds. The #4 is one of my "budget rifles" that I won't spend lots of money on, but still want something decent for it. Otherwise it would have gotten a Leupold but that rifle's only for an occasional use or backup role. So far its held up good but it hasn't been fired enough in the past couple years for me to make a sound judgement as to durability. The Tasco that was on there previously only lasted for 765 rounds of .303 British before the internals began to fall apart. So far I think I got a much better, longer lasting, more reliable scope (it also has the accu-range reticle that I've really started to like) but I guess the jury is still out for a couple more years or a couple hundred more rounds. Time will tell but so far it's real nice.

The first and only time I looked through a new Redfield I noticed a considerable difference when compared to a VX-1 in eye relief when changing zoom. That was my sole dislike but enough to skip the purchase.

I could not see a noticeable difference between the VX-1 and the Revolution. There is a definite difference between the Revenge and the VX-1. Is it possible you compared it to the Revenge model?

I received a Redfield as part of package deal with a Ruger American I purchased. Nice scope for the money. It is actually on my 10/22 for squirrel hunting. Nikon Prostaff went on the American. Just liked the reticle I have on the Nikon better.
