What manufacturer makes a short action bolt gun in a lightweight and carbine (18" barrel) configuration in .308? I would prefer matte stainless and a synthetic stock. Anybody make one like this at a reasonable price? Thanks.

Remington model 7 might fit that bill. Can be had in stainless/synthetic. It has a 20" barrel.

Thanks for all the info. I looked at a Ruger compact with its 16 1/2" barrel. That will do the trick-IF: I know the stock is also short. Is it too short for a long-armed apelike creature or will I batter my nose on something every time I shoot it?

I also looked at the Ruger international. With the full length forearm, will it interfere with accuracy? How is the forearm 'hung' to the muzzle at the end? Wonder if you could shorten the forearm and make it look decent?
