Does anyone make a bolt action like the following:

stainless
synthetic stock
iron sights
.308

I didn't think that was such a tall order but I'm coming up short. Anyone know who makes one?

Buy a M38 Mosin Carbine for around $80. Leave the sights alone, and add a $50 synthetic stock to it. Keep a little Bullfrog on the thing and in the bore. $130 for a rugged and reliable trunk gun.

It's 7.62x54R, not 7.62x51 NATO, and it's not stainless, but the blueing on the surplus guns is generally new and heavy, since the Russkies refinished the guns before packing them in cosmoline 50 years ago. Ballistics similar to .308. Accuracy sufficient for iron sights, unless you are Superman and can hit a silver dollar at 300 yards without a scope.

Heck, buy two.

Get an inexpensive surplus rifle and sporterize it.

I have a sweet .308 Ishapore Enfield that's solid. I am considering sending it off to be Duracoated which would approach stainless in corrosion resistance. I have an Advanced Technology stock on it which costs 60.00 and is fantastic. Since this may become a collectable I really would prefer finding a .308 junker and redoing it.

Total for all of it would be 360

I just sold a cut up M1917 Winchester in 30.06 to a friend for the $50.00 I paid for it last week, he's going to add a long relief scope and camo paint it. Ref the .308, a few years back a short version of the SMLEs MKIII in .308 passed thru, I had one for a while, it really kicked hard.

Just do yourself a favor: Put a pachmyr slipon recoil pad on it, and dummycord some earmuffs to it. You'll thank me after you fire the first round  7.62x54R is a THUMPER!

I like my Lee-Enfield #4 Mk1* in the same Advanced Technologies stock. All I did was to cut the barrel back to the front sight band and recrown it. Most practical rifle I own and it will shoot right along with my Garand.

It could and would be my "truck gun" but the SKS is a permanent resident behind the seat already. Guess you could say the SKS' primary purpose is social; if the goal was a hunting rifle per se then the Lee-Enfield is superior for that.

Have about $150 in each.

I had one of these for a while in original 7x57. The bolt cocks on closing which is a little weird. It was a decent gun, but nothing I ever got excited about. The 93/95 action whatever it is, is always cautioned about by the scribes due to the lack of safety lug in the design or blast deflectors/port if a cartridge ruptures. I don't really know if this is a real concern unless you're a hand loader trying to turn the .308 into a short magnum or something.
