Who makes the best 1911 for IPSC Limited?

Lately I've been wanting to compete in Limited division, having outgrown my taste for L10 and Production, and not being quite ready for Open. Which double-stack 1911 do you prefer?

I prefer the 2011 frame. STI or SV, makes no difference. Lots of good makers.

SV or STI. Have it built by someone who knows what they're doing (a good clue is how many local IPSC shooters have guns he made). SpeedShooters and JP Enterprises often have factory SVs in stock.

I've never shot IPSC, and I only own 1 STI (Trojan .45). However, local IPSC shooters (including one I know is a Master) use STI frames/guns heavily, often built or customized by Dawson Precision or Allan Tillman. FWIW.

I like STI guns and SV mags, I have owned both.

None of my SV-tubed mags drop free from my SV. All my STI-tubed mags work perfectly. Go figure.

I shoot a bone stock STI Edge. The only thing I've had done is some really pretty slide cuts, hard chroming, and a really horrible trigger job. I polished the feed ramp, barrel, etc., but anyone can do that. It'll feed any length round, even empty casings (resized).

Most top Standard Division shooters here in Australia shoot the STI 2011, usually custom built by one of our IPSC gunsmiths.

STI Edge is starting to sell well, and the Bul M5 IPSC model has a following as well.

SVI. Not exactly the same as sti.
SVI has many nice new differences.
The new extractor is much beefier
The triglide trigger system is incredible

Dont know. I would have to put a few thousand rounds through one to see if there is any advantage. The sight still moves, just not like I am used to. Might move like more like a revo.

And yes, SV stuff is nicer to look at and Sandy spends a lot of $$$ on R&D. Beyond that, all the fluff and polish I can do without.

"Hot" Limited /L-10 setup?

I'd go with the new SVI "Sight Tracker". Team SVI is doing very well with them (see Mark Agerholm's 2nd place w/a new gun at the AWARE match).

As for "fluff and polish;" I'd call a beefier extractor, a patented barrel bushing (if you opt for a bushing barrel), the exclusive treatment on the Schuemann barrels, the patented manual safety, etc. fairly substantive.

Of course, if you cannot afford an SVI, the STI is a good second choice.

and we really shouldnt forget SVI's interchangeable breechface design. The trigger system so you can get the different shaped inserts, want a short flat? a short curved? long curved, long flat? or a few other designs? no need to buy a brand new trigger each time, just get the insert.
These are certainly great options to have.

And yes, Mark did well at the Aware with his SVI, not bad for a guy who won't get out and practice.

Looks like its pretty much STI or SV..

pretty much the same...Sandy has some interesting stuff and it keeps the game interesting..but both guns are quality...and both are in the winner's circle...

SV makes a pretty nice gun if you want to go with a factory gun..if building one..both are pretty close to the same..
