beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but my vote goes to Miroku for their 1892 model. look s are great, fit and finish even better, sadly, price follows

Another vote for Henry! I have a big boy and is good looking shoots well and is accurate. Not sure why there are Henry haters but to each their own. Proudly made and bought in the USA!

JM stamped original Marlin 1894css stainless steel hands down.

the henry "big boy" is a real pretty gun, available in .357 and you will love it.
Marlin leverguns are going through a painful transition right now.
I am not overly fond of Rossi rifles, but tolerable.
The japs are making a beautiful winchester levergun, good quality, expensive.
...my 2 cents ;)

I gather from what I've read in other threads that the "yellow" on the Henry is rather soft brass that scratches very easily.

Do the Henry's have plastic sights and barrel bands?
Not any more, the older-production rimfire guns had those and there really wasn't anything wrong with them, as plinkers. HRA responded to a few years of bellyaching and came out with a metal replacement in the last few years - but the Octagon barrels have always (as far as I know) had a metal sight in the dovetail, not a plastic barrel to magtube connection that also mounted the sight.

It isn't brass, it is a brass-colored coating - and it isn't indestructible.
The OP wants a wall hanger and occasional range toy, not a club to beat a bear to death with right before winning a blue ribbon for "most attractive finish"

Because they're ugly and overweight.
Are you talking about me again? < raspberry >
I don't think they're ugly at all, but they are heavy. And they lack a loading gate. And I'm not a fan of brass-colored guns in general, but I still think the Big Boy models are appealing.
I'd prefer if they came in black the same as the 30-30 version, preferably with the pre-mounted aperture sights like one of the 30-30 models ... I have to be very careful not to encounter one of those, as I already stock 30-30 and wouldn't have an excuse to NOT buy it.

My suggestion:
Get a Henry "big boy" model and a "mares leg" in the same chambering, and mount the BB above the ML on the wall along with some .357mag ammo and leather gear - other than Rossi's ranch hand, I don't think any other manufacturers are making a "handgun" size to match their rifles/carbines.

Henry rimfires no longer have plastic barrel bands. It's now plasti-dipped aluminum or zinc.

The Big Boy is indeed solid brass (or perhaps ordnance grade bronze). Aesthetics aside, I've never been impressed with Henry's build quality and for the price of a Big Boy, it should be a nicer rifle than it is. Seems as if it were designed by a 6th grader and built in the high school machine shop. Clunky and overweight, severely lacking the elegance of a 1860, 1866, 1873 or 1876. Much less the svelte 1892.

I wish someone would make a half tube 1892 clone in .357, something like the Browning model 53. That's a fine looking lever gun. The 1973's are gorgeous too.

well, after looking around, I finally called about the Winchester 1892 Octagon Deluxe in .357, apparently the channel is all sold out, but with more expected (but not guaranteed) after the first of the new year. Bummer, kind of puts a squelch on the implulse buy. :(

I'm really impressed with the Rossi 92 that I got for my son. Stainless lightweight and accurate.

The Marlin 1894C is a fine rifle as well and with the right stock can be downright gorgeous.

Henry Golden Boy

The first gun that I ever bought was a Henry 30-30, with the brass and octagonal barrel. Love that gun. Yes its heavy, but it performs well and is a good hunting rifle. Ihad it for several years now and have yet to scratch the brass.

The fact that it is American made makes it that much better.
