Who Pays When You Bring a Friend Shooting?

First time, I'll pay, except their range fees and their targets (range fees here are 5 dollars for the day, and targets are cheap, so it's kind of a non-issue).

Second time, they pay for the ammo they consume (or pay me in component costs).

Had a guy I work with who failed his M-16 qualification, so I brought him out with my AR. My other friends who went with us and I chipped in for his ammo, and I kept the brass afterwards. Nowadays we have to qualify wearing our gas masks, so he brought his. I gotta admit, it was a bit of a sight him wearing his mask in civies, shooting prone, but he shot again the next week and passed with flying colors.

If I invite non-shooting friends I will probably pay their range fee and I supply the ammunition.

We start with 100 rounds of .22 and then maybe 50 rounds of centerfire pistol ammo.

Next time, they pay their own way.

I have an annual membership that allows me to bring a free guest... I reload, and I bring a trunk full o' goodies, so I'm a sucker. First 6 or 7 times are on me. After that, buy a gun and get your own membership. :D

I tell them to pick up some ammo during the week (when it's available) and bring cash for the range fees.

Nobody rides for free, and I'm already providing the guns.

If I take a friend shooting the minimal "guest fee" at the range is on me and pretty much all the .22 ammo they want to shoot is on me.

I'll let them shoot some centerfire, usually 9mm or .38, as well. If they want to shoot just a little bit, to get a feel for it, it's on me. But, if they want to go through 50 or 100 rounds, I'll usually ask if they can reimburse the cost of the ammo, or maybe buy me lunch instead.
