None of these surveys / polls can be scientific, so we should never try to make more of them than they are. At best, the sample consists of people with some interest in guns, who have access to a computer, who spend part of their on-line time on this forum, and who had the inclination to choose from the options presented.
That said, I'm very surprised at the small number of women on THR (about 3% of the poll-clickers). Possible reasons were floated on a thread posted elsewhere. My own observations are that women make up about 10% of the shooters at the range I frequent (more on that below). That's still not many, but I wonder why we have so few women here.
I'm not surprised that most respondants are younger than 40. It's that computer generation thing, I'm sure. My own anecdotal view of gun ownership/interest would have pegged the population as older... but that is because I go to the range mid-mornings in the middle of the week, while most of the younger crowd is out making a living.
As of last count:
- 97% of THRers claim to be male.
- 59% of THRers claim to be under 40 years of age.
- 2.6% of THRers don't (yet) own a gun.
