Good day all,

I have a Mossberg 590 in need of parkerizing. It has no rust or anything of that sort, it's just scarred up and I want to avoid rust. I'm looking for a job well done at a reasonable price. Who would you recommend?

Heavy

Haven't been a customer of his yet..... but go to the shotgun forum and look for posts, etc. by AIP -the pics I've seen of his work were quite good. If I'm able to pick up an old police shotgun he'd be my first choice to bring it up to service standards and I'd have the parkerizing as well...

Do Mossberg 590s have steel receivers?

If not

Can an aluminum receiver be parkerized? Are there finishes for aluminum that would match or blend with a parkerized steel barrel and mag tube?

I can't say for sure about the Mossberg 590, but all the 500s I have ever seen had aluminum receivers.

You cannot Parkerize aluminum.
I don't know if you can even Parkerize steel with aluminum parts attached which means you would have to pull the magazine tube as well as the barrel.

There are spray and bake coatings that are a pretty good match for Parkerizing. Close enough that it might be simpler just to paint the whole gun.

590's have aluminum alloy receivers as well, and I only know this because I too thought for a long time that they were steel (at first glance they certainly look it).

However, I am also looking for a guy to do a park job on my 870, so let's keep those suggestions rolling guys!

The reciever is aluminum. I was thinking that I could get the barrel and mag tube parkerized and have the receiver ceracoted or duracoated to match the parkerizing.
