What is this Cheap 308 Ammo you speak of? :banghead:

Seriously, the only milsurp out there these days is the ORF Indian. Based on what I've read over and over, you DON'T want that.

This site is updated semiweekly for whatever the cheapest price on .308 is out there. I can nearly guarantee, due to:

A: There is a WAR on
B: Cost of raw materials like brass, lead, copper has tripled
C: The UN is working to stop the spread of small arms and ammunition around the world
D: Most nations are standardizing on .223 infantry rifles instead of .308's

that the days of "cheap" blasting surplus .308 is gone for good. I predict we won't see .308 for under $.10 a round like we used to ever again.

Got to say, lots of luck, if you scrounge real hard you might find some decent deals from someone who hasn't heard of the surplus shortage recently, I've heard of people who found stuff for under $.15 per round in their hand but that is rare, and hard to come by, and small quantities. The best deals around are Indian (OFV headstamp) from the mid-1970's, M80 ball, the good deal is it's boxer primed and very good brass to reload, and despite what some may think, it isn't corrosive and it's actually not bad ammo unlike the 90's OFV stuff in the plastic bags that was floating around a few years ago. Figure right now, a .50 cal can with 400 rounds of 70's OFV, on 5-rd stripper clips in bandoleers, sealed @OFV and stored for 30 years unopened, is going for $99 per can plus freight. There was some Pakistani ammo of similar description for about the same price but most of the cheap stuff OFV or Paki has been gobbled up and is now being resold for $130/can on the gun show circuits.

I can't think of anything cheaper right now.

South African 1980's battlepacks of 140 rounds are going for over $50 each right now and they are selling as fast as they pop up on Gunbroker or Falfiles.com (That's about $.36/rd). US Lake City rejects are selling for $.50/rd right now, but there is Winchester White Box bulk packs going for around $.40/rd. The MEN or DAG or Port or Aussie ammo is all in the $.35/rd and up (Usually up) range right now.

As long as there is "panic buying" and some people are willing to pay anything for ammo (since they didn't plan ahead for a SHTF situation regarding ammo) don't look for the price to come down anytime soon.

If it means anything to you I will trade 1000 rds of OFV for a recent production Century R1A1 FAL receiver straight up face-to-face.

USSR has it right...

I am busier than a one-legged man at an a$$ kicking competition with all the damn brass I have to process.

Its almost enough to drive a man away from SLR's!

I said ALMOST....

I paid $5 a box of 20, 5 years ago for Lake City 52's with steel jackets and tracers.. '06 ammo off a local gun shop and was just happy to get it.

Only problem with reloading it is that the military brass has a crimp on the primer and it is very hard on the primer punch on the reloading dies.. Probably breaks one every 500 rounds. Then you still have to use a reamer to take the crimp out of the case before you can reload it.

Very good brass, very expensive to reload.

Empty's over at Bob's Army and Navy go for $4.00 a box / 20 rounds.

Roll your own. Got to these days. With newly manufactured ammo costs, a fairly good reloading set up pays for itself before the thousand round mark.

Not a problem at all. Use a Universal Decapping Die (I have a Lyman and have done thousands without breaking the pin) and a Dillon Super Swage to remove the crimp.

Just a tip guys one of our fellow members Michael Palombi has some chilean surplus for sale. He has about 3k rounds left. I bought some from him and I am happy with it, he is a great guy to deal with.

last time I checked, big dog had battle packs for 37 dollars, I think. He will be at the Pasadena tx. , gunshow this weekend i think.

$37 per from big dog? He's actually not upselling at gun shows, adding on his "transportation costs?" After he gave me an attitude wanting more money at a show after I did a buy it now on Gunbroker, to cover his transport costs, I told him to shove it and walked away... I'd buy from Ammoman before that piece of work

hmm... that seems unlike him. however I must say I do not know his policy reguarding, buying from him at gunbroker, and then doing the pickup at a show...
