Who's Never Run Across Range Jerks?

I'm sure if I think hard enough, I'll remember a jerk here or there. For the most part, however (and I'm talking 99.99% of the time), people at the range are MUCH friendlier than, say, at a bowling alley. No one comes up to me to compliment me on my shoes or balls at a bowling alley, nor I to them.

I find gunnies to be a very friendly bunch, and that makes all the difference in the world. :)

Peace, love, and harmony, y'all! ;) :D

NEVER??? - Well, Hardly Ever!

Not anyone being outright rude as much as ignorent or just insecure around firearms and loud and brash because of it.

:uhoh: :scrutiny:

Most can be helped over the mouseturds - with patience:evil:

I've neveer had a really bad experience at the range...more inconvenience :D Th only time I saw jerks at a range was years ago when I saw guys practicing their drive bys :fire: I've never gone back there!

I've made comments in several of those other threads to this effect. I've been pretty lucky. I've had some unsafe people, but they're usually newbies that respond to correction. No flat out jerks though. Well, sometimes at competitions, but that's to be expected... :)

me!

I've seen a lot of people who can't shoot, and a couple of unsafe moments, but never anybody who was being rude or unreasonable.

Maybe I'm just lucky?

"Only negative stuff I ever had happen was at competitions where guys wouldn't tape or the next squad would start doing stage walkthroughs while my squad's guys were at the starting point waiting for them to clear it out and stop picking up brass so we could go hot"

Congratulations, you've encountered range jerks.

Only a few times....Last time was at Ben Avery in Phoenix. I was shooting my FAL and someone setup next to me with a hunting rifle. I didn't think much of it until the guy asked me during a cease fire how long I was going to be shoting since he couldn't "Consitrate or Aim" with that 'thing' going off. I told him I still have 200 rds left so he ended up moving benches and giving us dirty looks the rest of the time there.

"I was shooting my FAL and someone setup next to me with a hunting rifle."

I've encountered that kind of jerk a number of times...

I got here a long time AFTER you, I don't even have my stuff unpacked, I could have taken another empty postion on the range, and yet I expect you to move because I don't like what you're shooting...

Right.

Me.

My "Range" is sandy patch of land out in the middle of Timbuktu. No humans to be found within miles. Lots 'o 4-legged critters, though..

What's a Range Jerk? :uhoh:

Does a noisy Robin qualify? How 'bout a pesky squirrel? Or a meandering doe? Or even a lumbering porcupine? ;)

I've been shootin' for almost two years at a few different ranges in the Seattle area and have not once encountered a range jerk. Everyone I have met has been courteous and polite.

It seems that no gun-club can make it without at least one, let's say, "unconventional person".

I always ask politely, if I can set up on the same pistol range occupied by only 1 person if the other ranges are busy (the ranges are wide enough for 4 shooters). I was denied this by "expert shooters" at 2 different clubs.

Another day, I was the only person on the range. A SUV showed up, a guy jumped out, and set up his stuff AHEAD of my firing line!!! No asking, no politeness, no nothing, just plain "Me, Myself, and I".

Signs of the time.

Me.

I only invite people I'm comfortable with out to my own range.

THe few trap/skeet/clays ranges I go to must have a sign that says "No Morons/Gunsels/Jerks" posted somewhere. I've never seen it; but I've never seen any Morons/Gunsels/Jerks there either.

Have only run into one jerk on the public range, and he is a jerk anywhere you meet him. Actually, he is a really nice guy, all sugar and syrup, who will stab you in the back when he gets the chance.

Ah, I've met two of these clowns. Otherwise, pretty good luck.

Fire arms, none so far.

Piantball I have a few. People who are used to firearms usually make good paintballers. Kids who have lived sheltered lives usually need instruction and some just do not listen.

I love it when people pick up my stuff and start trying to use it when I am standing by it.

Kid: "I was just turning it off" as he releases 3000psi of compressed air to a deafening woosh! Several people set him strait in a stern but polite manner.

Most people are pretty good about saftey and not messing with other peoples stuff though. I have also heard of jerks but most paintballers are pretty good

I don't recall any outright jerks, but I have run into a few people who feel that their need to "socialize" with me outweighs my need to practice my shooting free of interruption. I don't mind doing a little talking, but when it goes on and on and on and on and on....well, you get the picture.

The other thing we sometimes have to deal with at my home range is the old guy who sets up first thing in the morning at the first station at the rifle range and sits there all day making one shot, tinkering with his rifle, checking his shot, taking another shot, tinkering with his rifle, etc. Not really bothering anyone but making it difficult for anyone else to set up or to do anything such as different positions forward of the bench line.
