Jerk at range today.

Coupla weeks ago I was happily banging away with my 1911 when some "20 nothing" sat down on my right with a 10/22. 5 minutes later he shouts "Hey........hey! Those shells are hittin' me" acting all po'd. I looked at him and said "That's one of the hazards of being at a range." So he says (angrily) "That's what the screen is for." So I said "If you don't like it, move over to my left" (where there was an empty bench). I was starting to get pissed off. His buddies said, "No, no, it's ok" and calmed him down.

I dunno if I was in bad form or what, but I didn't like his attitude from the beginning.

Range

I have been going to the new local gun range that is open to public, funded by the state. They have two fish and game wardens there at all times, but they all seem really cool. I have yet to have any people like Sarge to deal, which is probally good if I have a loaded weapon...lol
Although I have recently been thinking about joining a private range which is closer by which is a better range. take care all and keep shooting

Well, since this thread came back due to the apparent high number of "Sarge" type people out there, I guess I'll throw in my two cents.

Like a lot of the members who have already posted, I feel people like "Sarge" aren't really worth acknowledging. When I see him at the range now, I just ignore him. He hasn't bothered either myself nor BamBam-31 in the month since this first happened. When I first got the cardboard screen for BamBam-31, it was because I partly overheard the tail-end of the original conversation and wanted to "nip the problem in the bud," so to speak. I hadn't realized he was being so rude (hey, I had earmuffs on and I was busy shooting  ).

I didn't realize that the Sarge was gonna drag this on for most of the afternoon. I mean, we go to the shooting range to enjoy ourselves, not to listen to some rude guy spread mis-information about guns. And he's supposed to be a dealer? BTW, the California so-called "Assault Weapon Ban" is a separate ban from the national "AWB." The California ban doesn't care about bayonet lugs, and if you look at the pamplet that explains it, it even says in bold type at the bottom that "Bayonets and bayonet lugs" aren't considered evil features! I was even considering ordering a copy from the California DoJ just to stick in his face, but decided that he shouldn't be able to affect me like that. Shotgun News? Who the heck gets their legal counsel from misreading ads in a newspaper?

As far as hot flying brass goes, I usually am not to bothered by it if I am on the recieving end. If I feel it is a problem, I just make friends with the shooter to my left and ask if they wouldn't mind using a screen. If I am shooting a semi-auto (pistol or rifle) I get the screen myself and also warn the shooter to my right before I fire the first shot. My experience is that if you start things off on a civil note before the first piece of hot brass gets launched, it's a much more enjoyable experience for all involved.

Also, for anyone who visits San Gabriel Valley Gun Club, BamBam-31 and I are there almost every weekend (varies on wether it's Saturday or Sunday). Once we get our "Molon Labe" shirts from the group buy, I'll try to wear it every time. Stop by and say "Hi!" Oh, and if the Sarge is there, you'll know who he is  .
