To add context, it's about Santa Clara County Sheriffs CCP practices. (San Francisco area.

  • Count 1: Illegally issuing concealed carry weapon permits (CCW) to VIP’s
  • Count 2: Failing to properly investigate whether non-VIP’s should receive CCW permits
  • Count 3: Keeping non-VIP CCW applications pending indefinitely
  • Count 4: Illegally accepting suite tickets, food, and drinks at Sharks game
  • Count 5: Failing to report Sharks game gifts on financial documents
  • Count 6: Committing perjury by failing to disclose Sharks game gifts
  • Count 7: Failing to cooperate with internal affairs investigation surrounding treatment of Andrew Hogan

Definitely not and especially not when it comes to CCW issuance in CA. Just ask Mike Carona. Interestingly enough though, where I'm at, Sheriff Gore has all but made the process "likely to issue" in spite of it officially being arbitrary. Perhaps being at ground zero for the lawsuit had some impact on the situation.

It's a stupid system that lends itself to corruption which is precisely why it shouldn't be a thing.
 
Assuming that the allegation against her are true we are reading about another case of a local politician being dirty. She was elected by the “people” who too often do not know much about who they elect. It. Is a sad facr]that the best ads determine the winner.
 
Not a surprise to me that such activity is found in the People's Democratic Socialist Republic of California. I lived there far too long; long enough to witness the change from a more or less 'free-thinking' society to a hard left society.
Not everyone there are full-blown leftists, by the way. I have friends in San Diego, Orange and even Los Angeles County who are quite conservative and gun enthusiasts. However, a good deal of the population are those who live on governmental hand outs and many who live a rather self-indulgent lifestyle.

I do differ from 1942bull's comment: "Is a sad fac[t ]that the best ads determine the winner." I rather think the sad fact is "the biggest promiser of tax money wealth sharing is the winner".

I think the county sheriff/ city police chief ( In Ca municipalities, a police chief may issue ccw as well) should have to have a valid reason to deny a ccw rather than a ccw applicant having to prove why they need one.

31st year as an LEO, I’ve never had a negative contact or gone to a questionable shooting with a person issued a ccw permit.

For sure studies show we are more law abiding than law enforcement.
 
Kinda came across that way, as I stated that as a LEO I support ccw and the insinuation from your post is that through guilt by association I am some how crooked. I see now that it wasn’t intended, no worries

Are there crooked cops? Sure. They need to be identified and drummed out of the profession. Just like crooked contractors, doctors ( name the profession here) need to be identified and drummed out of theirs, too. I spent many years in IA and have fired many who tarnished the agency. And I never lost a minute of sleep doing that. :thumbup:

Please be careful with a mile-wide paintbrush statement like that, as even if unintended, far too many people get painted who don’t deserve it. :)

Tennessee went from "May issue" at discretion of county sheriff to state dept of safety "Shall issue" after completion of BG check, safety and SD law class & test, qualification at a firing range.

Memphis Commercial Appeal made the handgun carry permit list available on its website. A reader thanked them because now he know who to avoid in his neighborhood.

Kingsport Times-News for awhile published the carry permit status of persons arrested for reckless or criminal use of guns: gun misusers were not permit holders.

Finally a local man killed his wife at a dentist office and menaced her boss and coworkers. A patient shot and wounded him and detained him for arrest. The murderer did not have a permit. The defender did have a permit. After that, local news focus on the permit law went away.

That’s why ccw shouldn’t be handed out by those who can manipulate the system. When humans are involved sadly ego, greed, etc. can lead to these exact issues.

I believe the State should have to prove why the CCW shouldn’t be issued (with an avenue for appeal via Judicial review) rather than the applicant being forced to prove why they need it. :thumbup:

Absolutely that is the proper way for it to work. Even though Constitutional Carry should be Nationwide.
 
In New York State, permit issue goes through county judges. The discrepancies are HUGE. Some counties are virtually shall-issue, while others are "will-issue-when-hell-freezes-over." Judges even have to sign off on each new pistol acquisition, although thankfully that's really just a formality -- except for one new judge in my county, who got it into her head that she could exercise "discretion" there: "Why does this applicant need another pistol? He's got too many pistols already." Fortunately, her colleagues quickly explained to her the error of her ways.
 
Im fairly sure a Indian Tribal Police Chief just got busted for the same shenanigans but he was making the Permit Holders reserve deputies but not requiring them to go to training or to help with law enforcement
