I am looking into getting a .17 HMR rifle and need some great suggestions. Trust me I have done a lot of research and have mostly come up with 3 good options.

I am considering the CZ since it has an excellent build quality, Savage since it has a good build quality along with the accutrigger, and the Anschutz since it would stand out a bit in my collection.

My question to you is why some of the fine gun companies are left out when mentioning the .17 HMR such as Weatherby, Remington, and Browning. All of their .17 HMR rifles are priced around $700ish which is getting close to what the Anschutz would cost me. I was guessing that CZ, Anschutz, and Savage puts a bit more focus on their rimfire rifles than these other companies????

I am not interested in the Ruger or Marlin. Can any of you guys recommend any of the 3 that I am interested in above the others? I am most interested in accuracy and build quality. I will also be getting this in wood stock. I plan on topping this rifle off with a Zeiss or high end Leupold scope.

Thanks guys

I love CZ rifles, but have no experience with their rimfires (yet). I fired my Savage 93r17 for the first time this weekend and I'm very pleased for <$250. It's not a beautiful rifle, but the prairie dogs and muskrats won't mind.

I've got the CZ 455 and while it costs a bit more than the Savage 93, I think it is worth it not only for its nice level of fit and finish, but also because you can swap barrels on it. I bought mine as a 17 HMR, but immediately bought the 22 lr and 22 mag barrels from CZ.

I love this rifle, it shoots great with all of the 20 gr gamepoint/xtp loads and especially well with with Winchester's version of the xtp. The 17 gr Vmax's didn't shot quite as well for me, but I have read where other folks have had good luck with them. The 22 mag barrel is also quite accurate with the super-fast 30 gr loads from CCI and Hornady.

I haven't gotten around to shooting the 22 lr barrel (just got an awesome PWS T3 barrel for my 10/22, and it has been taking all of my 22 lr ammo/time), but I will soon be dropping it off to be chopped and threaded for a Silencerco Sparrow. I'm betting it will be a shooter just like the other two calibers.

I was a late comer to the 17 HMR, but since I got one I have just been having a blast with it. I have to advocate for the CZ because I love mine, but in reality I'm sure you'd be well served by any of the three brands you mentioned.

Having owned both the CZ and the Savage, i dont think the legendary accutrigger is really any better than CZs excellent adjustable conventional trigger.

Try to track down a CZ453 with the single set trigget. Well worth it.

Mr. Trooper, thanks for the input on the accutrigger. That was one of the few things that was keeping me from going for the CZ. Obviously, the accutrigger is great but I am not sure how I would like it compared to a conventional trigger that was well done.

Can anyone else vouch that the trigger is great on the CZ's?

I have five 17HMR's.....2 Anschutz's with Zeiss 6.5x20x50's, a Cooper with a Zeiss 6.5x20x50, a Ruger with a Leupold 3.5x10 and a NEF with a BSA 6x18.

The first three have superb triggers and are awesome rifles in accuracy, aesthetics , craftsmanship and the other 2 are more or less beaters. The diminutive little cartridge is pretty neat.

They're not for everyone but you wont go wrong with a Cooper or Anschutz.

I have a few CZ centerfires and while the single set trigger is ok, it's nothing to write home about, the overtravel is just crazy. The Savage accutrigger is meh too. Give me a finely tuned single or 2 stage and call it good.

I own both the savage and cz. I'd go with cz. Just far superior build quality with similar accuracy and I also like their triggers.
