Just curious, when people post pictures, they block out the gun serial number, why is that?

Not to be rude, but you might want to try a search on this one. Been discussed plenty in the past.

Long story short, paranoia. They're afraid someone will get ahold of it and use it for nefarious purposes and get them in trouble.

Nobody's ever been able to provide proof of such a thing actually happening, however.

Oh okay, just curious. I guess it's like blocking out license plate number on a car sales thinking people can track the car and steal it. Thank you!

No worries. :)

Yeah, I guess it is kinda like that. Sorta goes along with the notion of requiring a bill of sale when selling guns FTF, so that the seller doesn't get in trouble if the person who bought the gun commits a crime with it. If the buyer is legal to own it in the first place, and the sale was legal, nothing they do with the gun afterward can be used against the seller. But some people insist on using them.

Like I said, paranoia.

And you're welcome!

Alot of people don't want to have a record of the guns they own. Some people wont even buy new guns because they have to fill out a 4473 and link that gun to them purchasing it. Same reason people wont fill out a bill of sale.
