Serial Numbers

It's kind of like this--I don't post my kids pics on the web either. I don't think it makes me paranoid to not do so.

Actually, yeah, that does make you pretty parnaoid. Tell me, how might posting a picture of your kid online lead to something bad? Do you think someone is going to track them down and kidnap them just because they saw a picture?

Hey! Duhhh... There seems to be a lot of cretins out there. I am the original poster of this thread... As I said before, I am not for posting serial numbers at random... just wondering why someone who is selling a pistol would keep a serial number hidden. That is all! I am not out to find info on all you paranoids... just want a serial number for a gun I am considering purchasing. This is mainly to date it. Sure... I know you can date it with 50% of the number, but why withhold it all? Relax! I am not advocating SSN posting, or collecting info on the guns you own... Please keep your paranoia to yourselves. My initial question still remains the same: For someone who is selling a pistol, is there a valid reason why the serial number should be hidden? This came about because I wanted to buy a 1911 Colt, but the seller refused to provide ANY serial number (I wanted to date it). I am still pissed... let it pass, and it sold cheap.

No. The seller is an idiot, move on, you don't want their gun anyway.
