Why do people consider SIG Sauer pistols ugly?

While I consider pistols such as the P226 series neither beautiful nor ugly, I've always thought that they looked like they meant business.

Me, I like CZ's.

But as a good friend of mine said approximately 39 years ago,

After a long and not idle visit to a tavern

"Never kick a gift horse in the mouth."

Enhh...

I have the SigPro, p250 and p220... I don't think their anything special to look at. Good guns but i think they are kinda blan.

The Sig models with extra attention to aesthetics (210, 232, 239) are attractive, but the rest are just functional. A lot of purely functional guns are considered ugly by some, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Sorry, I'm just not seein ugly.

It's all fashion and personal taste, just like which car is ugly or not!

I don't like some of their designs, but plenty of others look great. Of course, I also generally prefer the full length stock of milsurp rifles to hunting rifles, so some may say my tastes are strange. (the same has been said of my taste in cars, go figure...)

I think they are very nice to look at and even nicer to shoot. I think mean looking guns, all business guns, are very attractive. I dislike chrome, fancy wood, etching, etc. Give me accurate, reliable, and industrial looking. AR's, Sigs, HKs, M&Ps are all beautiful to me. Glocks just look, well, even I think they're ugly. It's all individual taste. I for one realize that just because I think something is attractive only makes that true for me. Because I think a Glock is unnattractive doesn't make it so nor does it demean the persons opinion who does. We can agree to disagree and I 'll be happy for you and your beautiful Glock.

...

Possibly, an A-10 warthog effect:

Many say they are ugly, but most agree they are beautiful when it comes to doing the job both, for ground units in need and, being over-built, always bring their pilots home, one way or another.

I completed a defensive pistol class 6 years ago with a borrowed and well used SIG 2340. Other than some pretty benign ccw "training" it was the first time I have done what I would call serious shooting. It ran flawlessly, the only ugly on it was the RH decocker..... but being a lefty I'm a little biased.

For my money, when gun maker's began moving away from high polished blue steel, color-cased hardening, well figured walnut, top quality nickel finishes, and so forth the entire "looks" concept went in the tank as far as guns are concerned...but I don't think that is surprising, given that many other products that used to be wood, steel, etc are now made of synthetics.

I think Sig's look business-like, and I have been able to comfortably and accurately shoot any Sig I have tried; which makes me think they look great

i really like the look of the P228 without the rails and i want one but they arent cheap.
does anyone know of a fixed source for a P228?

Ok, we won't call them ugly, how about inelegant? Big blocky looking slides and triigerguards just don't do it for me.

From Websters: lacking in refinement, grace, or good taste

But they are very reliable and well made guns, they just do not hold up to a BHP in the looks department.

I value function over form in many things. For instance certain cars, while ugly, gain visual appeal when you know what they can do. An example would be the Buick Grand National.

This picture is one of the reasons I find the Glock more appealing to look at than the SIG....this is a visual representation of better function.

Personally I find the stainless 232 to be one of the sexiest pistols ever made. That said, it doesn't look anything like the rest of the Sig lineup.

I was thing the same about my Sig 230! You are exactly right ............the .380 is the best looking Sig!

why do people consider them ugly?

Because those people have seen 1911's, Hi-Powers, SAA's, S&W Hand Ejectors, Walthers, and other nicely and elegantly designed guns. It doesn't mean the Sig is a bad gun - it just happens to be ugly compared to many others.

But they sure aren't as ugly as Glocks! ;)

Good compromise and the way to say it in polite company. But it's still a euphemism. ;)
