First I have read many online reports both good and bad on experiences
with this gun. I fiqured a lot of it was gun snobbery and decided to try
one for myself. Let me just say this is an awesome firearm for the price!
Paid $187 out the door, not many guns you can get new at this low price.

Its grip is large and that fits my hands well. Holds 10 rounds and has an
easy thumb on/off safety switch. Comes with a optional ghost ring site
which is special to find on a handgun. .35 oz so it soaks up the recoil
well with the .40 S&W rounds.

Took it to the range a few days ago and had no jams at all shooting
PMC ammo. Folks these are awesome guns! don't let the haters and
uninformed keep you from missing out on this deal of a firearm.

Yes, and if someone told you that bullsh*t was cherry pie every pasture would be a dessert tray. Please don't trust your life to that thing. It's fine for range plinking, but it is NOT up to snuff for self defense.

The problem is that for about the same money you can buy this: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F3M57 or this: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F3CZ82 or this: http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/smith-wesson/revolver/p/smith-wesson-model-10%2C-4in-standard-barrel-good-to-very-good-condition-s-w/cPath/16_211_431/products_id/4711?osCsid=e73436fd84654c813d7e850a211b47a1

These are well balanced firearms designed for military and police use that you could carry concealed or otherwise. They aren't made out plastic with a pound of zinc integrated into the slide.

There ARE better options within that price range.

and the fact that you copypasta'd on your first post totally doesn't scream spammer or company plant.[/sarcasm]

I guess since you have 19 posts under your belt that makes you an
expert at spotting this kind of behavior huh? I'm not a spammer or
work for Hi Point.

You may not, but there is zero data, not even some random anecdotal story to your opinion.
While not a spammer or plant ... it is pretty insubstantial. Not to mention that he may have 19 posts on *this* forums, but there is a pretty sizeable chunk of people who have been using the internet for the vast majority of their lives.

As for other and better options there is a bit of a choice to make here. Arguably there is truly better guns in that price range ... BUT! they do not enjoy the no questions asked warranty. I'm sure the Hi-Point is a good deal for the money and I'm sure our OP here will at some point invest in a nicer piece, once he's hooked on the sport.
I do have to ask though ... why the 40 and not the 9? You can shoot more 9 for the money!

I must say that I wouldnt carry a hipoint for defense purposes but they seem to be reliable and if you run out of bullets it serves as a nice club. Check out YouTube hipoint tourture teasts. Lifetime warranty too!

Hi-Point rocks:cuss: I have the .40 and it is also excellent but way too big for me to carry. Great for all other applications though.

I'm not inclined to be overly critical of this gun before I run it myself. I personally run a customized Kimber Custom II, but the High Point certainly seems to have grabbed it's share of the market. I'm not gonna be the one to criticize a gun I haven't personally fired or inspected. If the O.P. enjoys the gun, that's fine. If he enjoys shooting his gun and thinks he got a good deal, and if it's functional and reliable (and if he has some tactical suspenders to support his pants when he ccw's), then good luck! I think it's a little presumptuous to immediately jump to the conclusion that the O.P. is a company plant just because he supposedly copy/pasted his post. And the lack of hard data could simply be the fact that he's newer into the shooting sports and doesn't obsessively record his shooting stats. And saturn, in case you haven't heard it yet, welcome to The High Road.

I might be new to this particular forum, but that doesn't mean I just got the internet yesterday. It is suspicious when the text in someone's post does not line up with the forum's normal format; generally speaking it is evidence of someone copying and pasting their post.

I'll come out and admit it, I've never shot a Hi-Point. Never had the urge to.

But I'd rather save up a couple extra bucks (Seriously, good guns are not that pricey) to carry a gun that wasn't designed from the ground up to be cheap. Maybe I'm a snob, oh well.

My Cougar was a little over $300 after shipping and transfer fees, my buddy has a Glock 22 police trade in he paid about $350 for, I see Makarovs all the time for $200ish.

I have shot two Hi-Points, both 9s, but do not own any. Both were fairly new, the only FTF was due to my brother's limp wrist, he is not an experienced shooter which is also why he bought a Hi-Point. I think they are fine guns that allow beginners get into shooting. I would imagine that over time most Hi-Point customers choose to purchase better guns.

I do think it is worth saving a couple extra months to purchase a better gun, but that is just me.

Is it law or part of the sales agreement that you must at least own a boat, truck or tool box to purchase a HiPoint?

I personally do not own or desire to own a HiPoint. However, I am glad you enjoy it AND hope you continue to participate in recreational shooting. I don't understand why you want a .40 over a 9mm, especially if money is tight. (Honestly, I don't understand why ANYONE would want a .40 over a 9mm OR .45acp BUT that is another issue.) As others stated there are other (IMHO better) options in the price range BUT you could have also done a whole worse too. Shoot safe and have fun.

Boy we can have FUN!!! :neener:
We can rip the man's gun and his choice of caliber! :what: :cuss:

Now Saturn; If you like the Hi-Point. Great! They are reasonable guns in my mind. (I am going to add one to my collection).
I also like the .40 caliber, Nice round!
Congratulations. (I do mean that).

Now, let's play nice. Please.

Lateck,

Damn, there's a lot of self-righteous snobs here! If you dont like a certain brand of firearm, or a certain caliber, fine. But keep your mouth shut and your opinions to yourself.

If someone comes on here and says "I just bought one of these and I like it!", what business it it of YOURS to immediately start criticizing his choice?

Who died and made YOU the controller of what other people should spend their money on?

Who says YOUR opinions of what "proper self defense weapons" should be are worth anything?

You jerks that don't like Hi-Points are very tiresome and should learn to ****. There's nothing wrong with them other than your own biased opinions, so keep them to yourself.

I was being sincere In my post too. I hope he enjoys it. The standard 9mm is a more economical round than any other centerfire cartridge. (AS STATED, the shortcomings of the .40 is an issue to be discussed elsewhere.) Rather than discouraging him, we should be welcoming and supportive. Anyone of decent character that wants to join the shooting world is alright with me. The vast majority of people cannot afford to spend thousand of dollars on a hobby. I hope that the original poster was a legitimate new member and continues to post on the forum.

Hey, I just bought an Interarms Virginian Dragoon this weekend. It's <gasp> a .44 magnum, <OMG> single action, and <oh dear lord> USED! Come on haters, tell me what a fool I am, what a piece of crap it is, how worthless the caliber is, and how a single action handgun will surely get me killed in combat.

Welcome aboard Saturn! There's a lot of decent folks here, just ignore the 'holes.

+1, rondog.
Right on! My first gun was a little $60 H&R .22 revolver. Everyone said it was pot metal and would break on me the first time I shot it. Well, I've had it for a long time now, fired countless rounds out of it, and it just keeps on tickin'. It might not be too pretty, but it works, I love it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe a Les Baer. :) )
Just shows that all the experts on here might not know as much as they think they do.

2 of the cheapest and trouble free guns I own.
Great guns to learn on IMO.
Will you move up to more expensive weapons? Count on it.

Some people just can't seem to grasp that guns and shooting can be just for FUN. Some people seem to be stuck in the mindset that ALL guns must be combat-worthy and "tactical", and they're only to be used for saving your life or training for combat, and must be carried CCW. Guess they're blissfully unaware of the big wide world of target shooting and plinking for FUN.

if im gonna stake my life on a gun...A HiPoint isnt it, though better than no gun if you cant afford more, fine, Ill keep my SIGs for serious use
